San Diego--hotels in the Harbor Island area

We own a small family business and are attending a conference in May at the Sheraton on Harbor Island as vendors, then staying a few days to explore San Diego. Unfortunately, the Sheraton is booked for some of the dates we need, so we have made reservations at two other hotels--the Hilton on Harbor Island, within walking distance of the Sheraton, and the Residence Inn on Pacific Highway, about 2 miles away--and now I need to decide which one to keep and which to cancel.

Has anyone stayed at either of these? If so, what did you think of them?

The Residence Inn looks like an easy drive to the Sheraton, but is it really, or is the traffic bad? I would love to be able to walk to the Sheraton, but the Hilton is more expensive. I talked at length with someone at the Hilton, and the rate I got is supposed to be the best available, but it's still enough to make me wince. The Residence Inn is $300 less for the entire stay, but still a lot of money.

There are five of us, and our daughter is disabled, so that means getting two rooms or a suite, and one of the rooms has to be accessible with a roll-in shower, which complicates finding a hotel that's affordable.

Thank you for any ideas!

I live in San Diego so I haven't stayed in either of the hotels...I have co-workers who have stayed in the Hilton and haven't been very impressed with it - but these are consultants who are used to staying in Sheratons and Westins and other high-end hotels, so their opinions might not be the same as those of us who are more used to something a little more modest.

Your drive from the Residence Inn to the Sheraton shouldn't be too bad - but you'll be on the same road (Harbor Blvd) that everyone uses to get to the airport (which is across Harbor Blvd from the Sheraton) so there's a fair bit of traffic. It's a nice wide road with lots of lanes, though. Still, it'll take you 5-10 minutes between the two, depending on how you hit all of the traffic lights.

The Hilton and the Sheraton are not right next door to each other, so you'll still end up having to walk at least 3/4 of a mile between the two.
