Will be needing two nights prior to boarding DCL. Would like something in a nice area as it will be me and my SIL traveling together.

I stayed at the Marriott in Coronado Island, it's pretty nice and safe.

I don't know if you are wanting to stay close to where you board, and I have no idea where that is, but earlier this month we stayed at The Dana on Mission Bay. It has a resort feel. You definitely want the bay view rooms- the older section is not as nice. We had a bay view with a patio since we were first floor- others will have balconies. Mission Bay Park is all around it with walking and biking trails. There is a nice pool and hot tub on the newer side, along with a fancy restaurant. It was all very pretty we thought!

What I am finding so far is truly giving me sticker shock. It is also not helping that the names that I easily recognize, Marriott, Wyndham, etc. are either already 100% totally booked or all are coming in at $200+ per night for 2 people. I understand that the weekend we need is also graduation weekend for the universities in the area, and I guess people book 11 months in advance. :confused3

I guess with having DVC, I have not paid for a hotel room in a long, long time, and $200+ is more than I wish to shell out, especially for 2 nights.

I would not even mind staying a bit of distance from the port and paying for a taxi, if it would get me a lower room rate.

I am finding all hotels in SD are expensive. However, check the gaslight district, the hotel circle hotels that are near SW and Mission Bay, check around Liberty Station on Point Loma. All are not too far from the port.

If you definitely are going, sometimes hotels have a pre-paid discount, but not refundable.

Have AAA or other discount? Try using every kind of discount you can apply. Sign up for the hotel's free membership card, sometimes they offer discounts. I always get tons of emails from hotel groups I belong to. Price on Expedia or other online agencies to see what they offer.

I hope you find something. It is fustrating when you get sticker shock. Even with my work discount, I am still paying alot for our hotel in SD (which is not where you want to stay), but it's where what we want to do, and we are not sailing out of there.

Yes we are definitely going, have the DCL California Coast cruise booked Back to Back with the 9-night Alaska sailing, so we are definitely going. I have been seeing a lot of prepaid options, and they were non-refundable, which is new to me as well.

Thanks for the suggestions. Guess I just need to keep on checking.

Look at the Embassy Suites in Downtown San Diego. Fine hotel and you can walk to the cruise terminal and the main trolley lines.

This was one of the first ones I checked, based on another recommendation. After the website told me no rooms available for my weekend next May, I called their 800 # and was told they are totally booked. :confused3

Also, I highly recommend Homewood Suites Liberty Station. See this thread:

Thanks, I have seen other recommendations for this Homewood as well. Unfortunately, it is me and my SIL traveling, so we are looking for two beds, and they have a King and a sleeper sofa--I am not seeing any rooms with two beds. If it were me and my DH travelling, this would be great.

Ah.

The Bristol and The Sophia are all relatively close to the Terminal (short cab ride or a quick trolly ride to the central station and then a short walk).

I prefer the Bristol but the Sophia would work.

The Bristol is sold out for our weekend.:scared:

The Sophia is available but the cost would be $442.00 for two nights. I might end up having to pay that, but I sure don't want to if I can find something else.

We just got back from San Diego and stayed at the Embassy Suites at the Port hotel. It was a great place to stay. Only issue was the $35 per night parking fee.

Not sure what your dates are...saw May 19 in your signature...but Lastminutetravel.com Club has the Sheraton Mission Valley for $102/nite. I put in 2 adults/2 children so you will get two beds. If you are not a Club member just call and they will give you the Club price, and the reservation is cancelable up to 3 days before check in.

Good luck.
