I'm very late planning this trip, & am running into some real problems trying to book a hotel. :guilty: We're kinda picky when it comes to hotels, & usually prefer 4 stars properties. Unfortunately, most of the hotels are sold out & the nice ones I can find start at around $300/ night, & go way up from there. I'd rather not pay that much, especially for the night we fly in late. I'd rather stay in the $200 or less range. Does anyone have any suggestions for nice hotels in the Downtown or Coronado area that I should check? It will only be DH & I. We like B&Bs, as well as hotels, as long as they're nice & very clean. We'll have lots of luggage for a 10 night cruise, so wherever we stay needs to have elevators or another way to easily transfer luggage. (I know elevators aren't an option at most B&B.) FYI, this is for Apr. 5th & 6th. Thanks for any help you can provide. I really need it!!!

We started staying here:

http://www.hanaleihotel.com/

when it was a Best Western. Then they renovated and were not affiliated, and now they are a Red Lion hotel. We love the tropical feel, and since it is over the hill in hotel circle it doesn't feel like you are in the city, but the city is a short drive down the freeway. And I had one of the best meals ever at the restaurant there.

Rates were $150+ for the time you mentioned.

We've also stayed here:

http://www.bahiahotel.com

it's right on Mission Bay and they are having a special right now for $129.

These are both very good hotels that feel like they should cost more - and probably do on some occassions.

Good luck!

I LOVE the Del Coronado. Maybe you could try priceline for a 4/5 star hotel in the area and see what kind of a deal you can get.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check them out. :)

I tried PL today. (This was my 1st attempt trying to book with them.) I bid up to $140, before running out of free bids. I was trying for Downtown &/or Coronado, & used the zones that didn't offer 4* hotels as free bids. I'm going to keep trying, but want to go ahead & book a back up just in case. Since a lot of the hotels are sold out, I'm afraid PL may not get any rooms in that category. Unfortunately, I think the Del is sold out. :guilty: I wanted to stay there & would have been willing to pay more for it. :(

LaJolla is just up the coast a bit and is beautiful! You could try there if you don't mind staying outside of downtown. :)

Last year in February we stayed at Humphrey's Half Moon Inn and Suites. It is located on Shelter Island and is about a 5 minute drive to the cruise ships and Sea Port Village.

We typically stay at the types of hotels you like as well but I couldn't find decent rates for the dates we were going. Additionally, I needed 2 rooms and a nice common places to visit with my folks.

I searched hotels.com and other websites for the best price on line and then called and asked if they would pricematch. They did and we had a lovely stay. They have free parking. The resort has a Polynesian feel and has a walking path along the marina side and the bay side. The units have outdoor entrances and are built maybe 4 units per building or so. It is not new by any means but clean and well maintained. They have a terrific large heated pool and a hot tub on the pool deck. We had Sunday brunch there and it draws a huge turnout from the locals, great food. They have a website, check it out. HTH, Amy
