We've got our DL trip in March all figured out! Now it's time to figure out the San Diego portion of that trip. We have narrowed down the SD hotels to two in Carlsbad:

1. Grand Pacific Palisades
2. Hilton Garden Inn Carlsbad Beach

Has anyone stayed there recently and can offer us opinions on one or both of these hotels?

Thanks in advance!

I stayed at Grand Pacific Palisades in June, 2002. We exchanged our timeshare to stay there. We had a two bedroom, sleeps 7.

We were right near the staircase and elevator in a busy time of June, but I don't think we ever heard anything. We also didn't get noise from above or below us. The unit was very new and in good shape. We were pleased with it.

I have never been at the Hilton Garden Inn, so I can't compare.

Thanks Julia M... Did you use the pool? I heard there's sort of a water play area for the kids. Also, how was the hotel restaurant --was it kid-friendly? (We're travelling with 2 young DDs.)

We're going for a nice hotel, because that's our relaxing portion of the trip. We plan to wake up late, have a breakfast at the hotel, and then hang out at the pool quite a bit.

Thanks!

Yes, the pool area is nice. But the water in the pirate ship was cold......my kids didn't like it much and we were there in June. You realize, March may be a bit cold for swimming, even in San Diego.

The restaurant was a Karl Strauss Brewery. We ate there without the kids, but we saw kids there, so I'm sure it's fine.

My kids really liked the hotel. There was a tv in their room, with cable (we don't have cable and no tv's in rooms, so they loved it) Also, very close by is an outlet mall (at the same exit, I believe), a Costco right across the street, and more. So there are lots of restaurant possibilities within a few minutes. We ate at Fridays.

You really couldn't go wrong here. We walked to Legoland and my kids really liked that also.

I just realized you said you have young daughters. There is also a very simple Childrens museum in Carlsbad, looked to me like it was for the preschool set (my kids were 5-10)

here's a link to that

Thanks, Julia M, for all the information. We figured March would still be a bit on the cold side. The hotel sounds great! We'll be watching the hotel's website for some potentially good rates. Right now, it's $171 USD/night for the time period we're going.
