San Diego Cruises 2021

A few Guaranteed verandah cabins have opened up on the Eastbound Panama Canal this morning! Starting at $11070 (4E) and going up to $12470 (4A). It's the only category available currently.

That is a sad amount of $$$ at this point for a reduced experience.

What is anyone thinking if they have kids under 12 that need the PCR test 3 days before sailing with negative result uploaded 24 hours before sailing. Anyone have good experience with a place in SD that will reliably get the rapid PCR test results back in time?? I have found one place that promised to do it for $199/test but I have no idea if they are actually reliable. With the steady increase of covid cases nationwide its taking longer and longer to get results, In Florida they can go to the airport and get a rapid test but at our airport you have to show your flight ticket to qualify, its not for cruises. I hate disappointing my child because I chose badly and we don't meet the deadline. I am feeling the pressure.

We had to get our son tested (PCR) before we took him to college. We had time, so we used the local MedHero location. We didn't expedite the test, so it took > 3 days. Doing it on a Thursday didn't help, I think. Anyway. if you search for "same-day results covid testing san diego" a number of results will pop up. I can't vouch for any of them, but at least it's a place to start.

I hope it works out for you and your children.

When our 7N was modified to a 4N, we got a refund for the difference in the form of a FCC. The amount credited was larger than I expected. Did anyone else experience the same? I simply calculated 3/7 of the original fare. The credit was more than that.

Didn't they drop a port stop? You'd get the port fees back for that stop as well.

Do you have Kaiser? They will test you for travel with 24-48 hour turn around. No fee, you just go online and set up an e-visit and then you will be authorized to go to a drive through testing facility at one of their locations.

We do have Kaiser, but they only test M-F between 8am and noon, last time we had to have him tested (even with the required appt to join the queue) we were in line for just over 90 minutes, so he would miss at least 2 hours of school. We did get the results back but it did take the full 48 hours so I know they were already having a hard time keeping that commitment, so thought this time I would pay instead. They did make the deadline barely, but that meant 2 hours lost work and lost school to get him the test., Really hoping to hear someone has had good success with one of these SD companies offering the rapid PCR test in time. Its a big choice as it impacts all 4 of us going, the other 3 being vaccinated, he is still 11, and he would be the most crushed if the results didn't come back in time. Not the way I wanted his cruise anticipation to hang in the balance, I wish they gave us one more day or half day for results but I am glad they are keeping everyone safe. Anyone have good success from one of these rapid test sights- airport one isn't taking cruisers.

Quick question for those in the EBPC cruise and are flying out internationally after, do you happen to already know if Disney is doing a test on debarkation day? We’re trying to decide if we need to stay an extra day for the PCR test or if Disney is already doing a test, it’s what we can bring back and we can fly out on the same day.

Thanks in advance!

CVS and Walgreens will both take appointments for tests in California and they say results in 1-2 days. My son took a PCR test at a CVS (in Orange County, not San Diego) on a Friday morning and got the results by email Saturday night. Locations may differ but you just pull up to the drivethough and they hand you a kit through the window, you swab your nose and hand it back.

BTW, it's free (they'll bill insurance if you have it but they don't charge you).

Here are some more free options in San Diego County: https://211sandiego.org/covid19/covid-19-testing/

Our experience with Walgreens from about 2 weeks ago... took the PCR test at Walgreens in San Diego on a Sunday morning and got the result back in a week (the following Sunday morning). Had a much faster return around time with Rite-Aid - took the test on a Friday night and got the result back Sunday morning.

Wow, Kaiser is nothing like that where I am. My wait has been less than 5 min each time, and they have appointments 9am - 4:45pm. We've always gotten our results the next morning.

Online it does say they are doing testing on the ship for cruises over 7 days but doesn't say what type of test. I feel you need to contact DCL to check on this one I'm afraid. I was doing EBPC but actually went and moved just before the 15th deadline as just can't see the US opening the boarder to UK people in time. Lucky really as yesterday BA cancelled my outbound flight anyway so couldn't have got to the cruise

I had seen your question, so I asked it today when I was getting some other questions answered by Disney. All they could tell me was that no decision has been made yet about testing during debarkation in Galveston. Sorry, no help.

We are sailing Concierge. We have BG 1, but there is no PAT listed. Has anyone else seen this?

Concierge don't have PAT they are automatically available to get to port at any time and are given boarding group 1. What you need to find out is the earliest PAT anyone has for one of these cruises to work out what time the port opens (15 mins before this time) or email DCL and ask what time the port is opening for clarification

If it helps any, we have boarding group 2 and our PAT is 11am. We are platinum but not concierge. So you should be before us.

Yeah, I know that we can show up anytime (We've sailed Concierge a few times before), but I seem to recall that we at least had a time. I did email shoreside, and they seem to think I need a PAT. Anyway, the earliest PAT I've seen so far is 11:30.

Thanks
