I just read about this restaurant in passing and am now very curious. Would love to hear some additional reviews.

Not a big fan....it always seems like i am in the middle of some cheesy attraction, much like eating in a cafeteria, and the most annoying to me is the amount of tables and chairs they squeeze into the area. You feel like others are right on top of you....of course only my opinion

We always loved the atmosphere at this restaurant, the food was good, not great, however we had two experiences with rude service and haven't been back since. After the first time we figured it was a random situation, but a second time is a no no. Yes, we contacted mgmt. regarding this and they claimed it would be addressed, upon the second occurence we assumed it hadn't. It's a shame too, it was kind of our traditional first night dinner. Oh well, there are plenty of others.

Both times we dined there (out of pocket, no dining plan) the food was mediocre at best. Cold entree, dried out rice and no service to speak of. Never got soda refills at all. We won't go back.

Definitely not what I was hoping to hear. Guess I will keep looking for a new place to try =) Thanks for the reviews!!

I honestly think I may be the only person on the dis that actually loves this restaurant .
I eat here every trip and it's mainly for the outstanding, phenomenal, and amazing atmosphere, but I really enjoy the food too. Maybe other people have way higher standards for Mexican cuisine than I do, but I enjoy San Angel's Mexican cuisine. I've never had any problems with servers and yes the tables are rather close together but you could go with the positive attitude thinking that it just adds to the cozyness.:confused3

It may have to do with where you are seated, but we had a wonderful table along the rail by the water. We had a wonderful experience! Our waitress was amazing & we loved watching the boats go by, having such a great view of the volcano & the atmosphere was wonderful. Food was ok, but we were there more for the atmosphere :)

We went last summer despite mostly bad reviews. I was hoping that we would have a good experience and went in with a positive attitude because I had always loved the atmosphere in there and it always smelled so good.
WRONG!:scared1: The food was just so-so and the service was TERRIBLE!!!!
I may try it again in the future to see if it was a fluke, but probably only after a few margaritas.:dance3:

We went last Sept. and it was probably our least favorite meal of the week. Our table was next to the bathrooms and the service was bad. Mexican is a meal that requires lost of liquids. Having to hunt for a refill doesn't cut it.

I had really looked forward to this meal and had told my DH what a next restaurant it was...needless to say it wasn't up to par. :sad2:

We have an ADR there this coming Thursday for lunch...it will be our first time back to San Angel since our honeymoon in 1991...I'm not sure about it but DH really wants to eat there. Do they serve chips & salsa before the meal? If so is the salsa good?

Yes, they serve chips and salsa before the meal. However, I don't like salsa so I've never tried it and can't comment on if it's good or not.

Nope...we love it too! The food has always come hot and fresh! Are the tables close...yes, but I don't see anything diff't at the other EPCOT eateries. They want to accomodate as many people as possible. Boy, on a hot day how refreshing is it to stop into Mexico and enjoy such soothing atmosphere and cool a/c. It totally revives us! We've tried a lot of diff't places in EPCOT but this is our favorite! :goodvibes

Although we have only eaten here twice, i have enjoyed it both times and would not hesitate to reccomend it.... but having said that, I would hate to be seated by the washrooms. When we were there last December we asked if we could be seated by the water and were told if we waited a bit, there would be no problem, so just ask.

Nope we love it too! We have eaten there quite a few times and never had anything but a great experience. The tables are close together but I have found that at most WDW restaurants.

Its not your run of the mill Tex Mex and I know a lot of people don't like it and I respect that. But we love it and keep going back! So you are not alone.

It's not Tex Mex and it's not Mexican either (both of which I love). It's just bad.

I have to agree - it's not very good. We had a wonderful meal the first time we visited - years ago - and tried it twice since, but the service and the food was terrible. We enjoyed lunch at the Cantina outside much better.

I agree with the squeezing into the area. My husband is in a wheelchair so it was very hard on him. It was also too dark > He dropped something. I think it was his hat and I could not even find it. I asked the waiter to bring us a flashlight.I had stated in another thread not very good mexican food. We are from Texas so we have very good Tex Mex restaurants everywhere. I agree with another person about the drinks, they do not offer you have to ask for a refill. We ate there over 20 years ago and we thought we would give them another try the food was bad then and it is bad now. You would think disney would try to improve the SanAngel because they take pride in their reputation.

This is how DH and I feel about San Angel Inn, too. We've had dinner there three times (including Christmas dinner 2005!) and we love the atmosphere. We've had a table by the water 2 out of the 3 times. Our first dinner there was really good, but the food hasn't been nearly hot enough during our last 2 dinners there. That makes such a huge difference in our enjoyment!

Service has always been fine, if somewhat hurried.

I do consider this a "must do" for anybody who's never been--try it at least once for the romantic atmosphere!
