Thinking about changing our ressies at the Biergarten after readin a post today. I don't think we will like it too much. However, which of these 2 restaurants are better? We are also going to Alfredos and Le Cellier during our trip. :confused3 Thanks!

Personally I would say San Angel Inn. I lived in Algeria (next to Morocco) for about 18 months and must say I didn't find the food at Marrakesh very authentic at all. Then again, most people seem to like it... ;)

Can't help you on this, since we like both places. I like the Biergarten too, but DW is not so keen on it. We are debating between San Angel and Marrakesh for October, as we like both quite a bit. I like the atmosphere at Marrakesh, with the music and belly dancer; very entertaining. Frankly, they serve better Moroccan food at Spoodles on the Boardwalk or Jiko at AKL, but the food is still pretty good. On the other hand, San Angel is a wonderful quiet and dark oasis on a hot steamy Florida day. You watch the boats on the Rio del Tiempo ride disappear into the ride (kinda hokey, but fun - one of 5 yr old DD's favorites). The food is upscale Mexican, not Tex-Mex that we're all used to. There are baskets of tortilla chips on the table, but the food is better than many "Mexican" restaurants un North America. We like it for the atmosphere, and the kids enjoy it. I'd take the Biergarten any day, but DW would prefer San Angel or Marrakesh.

Good luck with the decision.

I always end up choosing Marrakesh. I don't think the food is better one way or the other, but I can get Mexican food at a great restaurant at home, but there is no restaurant in northern NH that serves Morroccan food. Just my thoughts :)

Thanks for such quick responses! Personally, I love persian and middle eastern fare. But am very spoiled, we have authentic restaurants where I live. I would probably like the San Angel, we aren't the tex-mex type either.
We prefer the smaller, non chain Mexican/Spanish restaurants. The ambiance sounds very nice at both. We might have to just change a few ADRs around so we can try both. Thanks!

Sounds like you know your north African style food, in which case I would stay away from Marrakesh. Like pumpkinboy said, San Angel Inn is more "authentic" Mexican than tex-mex, so I don't think you will be disappointed there. :)

We had an excellent meal at Marrakesh in May. It's now at the top of my 13 yo ds' "must do" list for Oct.!! Despite having eat at San Angel Inn several times over the years, I have never been impressed by it. Perhaps it's because I've always had excellent Mexican and Tex-Mex food available at home.

Here is an idea, make the ADR for San Angel, if you have a change of heart you can almost always get in to Marakesh with little to no notice.

DH and I found the food at Marrakesh extremely bland--virtually unspiced. The restaurant is stunning, though, and we loved the music and belly dancer.

We both liked the food at the San Angel Inn (much to our surprise, since the counter service food is your basic Tex-Mex and very ordinary), and the atmosphere is our favorite in Disney. If you haven't been to Mexico yet, the restaurant setting is under a deep blue night sky, with an erupting volcano and a river (complete with boats and riders) at the edge of the seating area.

Haven't eaten at Marrakesh.

I know this might just make it more difficult, be we didn't find the San Angel food to be anything close to authentic. More Chevy's-like. That doesn't make it "bad", just not authentic.

We prefer the smaller, non chain Mexican/Spanish restaurants.
As do we, if that helps as a point of reference.

The ambience is very nice however, with the marketplace, volcano and boats. Its a bit on the noisy side and the tables are pretty close together, but still pleasant.

Oh, and just a note on Biergarten... The food wasn't the greatest, but we did really enjoy the entertainment and ambiance there.

We ate at Marakesh on Wednesday and had the signature dish selection there. I thought the food was excellent (particularly the lamb). For those that like to experiment, there are relatively few decent Arab/North African restaurants to be found around the USA, whereas virtually every small town has access to some sort of Mexican or Tex/Mex place.

IMHO both are very good, for choice I prefer the one in Morrocco.
