San Angel Inn

I've learned to not take opinions and base them for myself. If people would listen to my opinions about Disney food they would never step foot in a lunch/dinner buffet restaurant and would not be impressed with Le Cellier. :goodvibes For six years I listened to the voice of many here on the DIS and avoided SAI. Finally a couple of years ago I decided what do I have to lose and tried it. All I can say is I really enjoyed it and have been back 2 more times. The food as mentioned is not your typical around the corner, everyday, "Americanized" Tex-Mex so many are accustomed to. For this reason I enjoy SAI. I found the food to be good and the atmosphere is awesome. The downside to this place is the tables are stacked pretty close to each other and the service can be a bit average at times. I say keep your plans and try it for yourself.

I've had a lot of great experiences at San Angel. Ambiance alone makes it great.

We ate there last night and I also almost canceled the ressie but it was one place my kids really wanted to eat and actually it wasn't bad. The service could have been faster but the food was good. I had chicken and my husband had fish and both were flavorful and tasty. Our kids really enjoyed it and liked eating next to the volcano. I would say anything is worth a try once. We were not disappointed.

While we found the food to be pretty good, it is a crowded and loud restaurant--especially the farther away from "Volcano" seating you get.

If you look for a WDW restaurant that has no bad reviews, you will not be eating anywhere! We love San Angel, would go there just for the soup, and the steak was Awesome!! It is so beautiful, if you want to try it, go and make your own determination.

Everything was fresh and delicious! We have always had great service as well!

If you're looking for tex-mex or Americanized Mexican food, you will be disappointed. The food at SAI is very authentic to food you'd be served in Mexico. With that said, both my wife and I have enjoyed numerous lunches and dinners there over the last 10 years.

Take a flashlight, or install a flashlight app on your phone in order to read the menu. The lighting is VERY dim.

By all means, try and see for yourself.

Our most recent visit was at least two years ago, but what I recall about all the WDW Mexican dining is that they are all run by the same company.

Here's my take. My local Mexican places, even some very inexpensive ones, eagerly customize entrees to order. You pick the meat and exactly what toppings/additions you want.

WDW's Mexican places are oddly non accommodating. I didn't ask for much. We asked if they could omit the sour cream, and they said, "NO, this is how we make it."

The food at the Cantina was miserably, horribly miserably slow. As in, it wrecked our evening it was SO slow.

My local options are just worlds better. Just higher quality all around. Last week, I had one of the most delicious meals I've ever had anywhere.

This is always the first place we eat once we get to the parks. We love it. Last year was the first time my DD ordered the pollo a las rajas. She liked it so much that we had to make another reservation for later in the trip. I say give it a try. Everybody has different opinions.

That is odd. They customized my daughter's meal - she cannot stand beans and they gave her rice instead at San Angel Inn. I don't think she had any modifications to sauce or anything else though. She loved the meal and atmosphere so much we are eating there on her birthday this fall.

Interesting you were not able to be accommodated on your meal when you were there. I have had no problems at all. I absolutely can't stand sour cream and asked every time I've dined there to leave off the sour cream. Never a problem.

Maybe WDW Mexican dining has changed, and they are more open to minor modifications. As I said, I found it odd how unaccommodating they were willing to be (more San Angel Inn and the QS). I recall the food at the new place (cantina?) was slightly better, but the really slow service pretty much ruined it for us, and I should add, I'm pretty lenient when it comes to wait staff.

I do agree with other though who say that if you start a thread: top 10 ADR's, and another: Worst 10 ADR's, you'll see quite a bit of overlap. A few places trend towards the bottom or top. Sci-fi, and Tony's TS trend low.
