San Angel Inn IN Epcot, is it good?

The food is okay. If you know California, Arizona, or Texas versions of Mexican, you will find it terribly disappointing. If the best Mexican you've had was in Michigan, Ohio, or Wisconsin, it's pretty decent.

Seats by the water are a very hit or miss thing. I'd guess that less than 1 in 5 are right there. I don't find it necessary to sit right by the water, as long as I'm not in a truly bad location. Amusingly, the last time I was there, they tried to seat me right by the service entrance. I asked to be seated "anywhere else"---didn't need to be by the water, just not right next to the service aisle, and would be happy to wait for something.

Ten minutes later, they tried to put me in exactly the same table. ;)

I used to be pretty wishy washy on that place, but recently we had lunch there because it's the only place we could get an ADR and it was surprisingly good! That is NOT to say it's real Mexican food by any means. I grew up in a Mexican neighborhood (the kind with goat heads on display in the butcher shop), so I know the real thing. But if you're looking for a generally good meal vs. an authentic Mexican one, it's worth a look-see. On the day we went (couple weeks ago) it was so packed that I can't even imagine what the extra wait for a water table would have been.

You are probably going to get a ton of negative reviews (I did when I posted the same question) but we are going to give it a try for lunch in Oct

We think it's terrible. That said, my sister likes the atmosphere so much that she always wants to eat there. I admit the atmosphere is nice, but the food is very consistent... consistently bad.

Just my opinion... :smokin:

We think it is the most disgusting food on Disney property. This is not Mexican food by any definition of the term.

The atmosphere is great, food is nasty. If you really want to go, maybe go for dessert.

I've said it before, but I really like it there. I order the vegetarian combination plate every time, and every time it has been very tasty. No one I've eaten there with has ever thought it was bad either.

Wow...I am amazed at how bad the food has gotten over the years. I ate there about 8 years ago and we loved it. We always stop by to try to get a table and get turned away (I just don't plan that far out to do dining reservations). I guess I am glad that they did, for the prices on their menu I expect something fabulous.

I never quite understood why it always got such negative reviews and then I decided I just must have different tastes in food than most. That being said, it's one of my favorite restaurants on property. I think that even if the food is digusting (which I don't think it is) it would be worth it just because the atmosphere is so amazing. Not only is it dark and you can watch the boat ride, but sometimes there is a mariachi band performing. I've never had bad service here either. We've been going here every trip for the past 6 years probably. I think that you should try it for yourself at least once.

We've eaten there a number of times in last few years, and enjoyed the food quite a bit. My biggest complaint is the crummy chips and salsa--we're talking chips straight from the bag and Pace Picante  Not that good!

Food is bad, noise is very loud, seats are very, very close together, it is very dark. Did I say LOUD ? We were there first time in Aug, and while we will return for drinks, we will not eat here again. We were there for supper, me DW, DS, and DD. We would all say - try somewhere, anywhere ! - else !! Good luck and have fun !! :thumbsup2

How does it compare to the food at their counter service outside? I got the combo platter there CS and loved it.

The restaurant has been open for many many many years. I cant say the same about a few of the other Epcot restaurants. Yes, all countries still have restaurants, but completely changed menus/restaurant name etc..

San Angel Inn has stayed the same. That alone should tell someone its not horrible! Its Mexican food made at a theme park in FL...what more do you want??!!

I happen to like it a lot.

We went this past May again to the san angel inn, it was our 4th time dining there. We love it there! We had a table right by the water this time, it was awesome drinking our margaritas and watching the people pass by on the boat belows. Is it the best mexican food I have ever had in my life...NO! but it is good and we always go there at least once on each trip.

Service: good. Table right by the water: how long are you willing to wait? Food: seriously lousy!

If you want details, I posted about this in my trip review.

We would never eat there again!

What can I say, I was warned.

We ate there in may and I really like it. The atmosphere is great, we were just one "row" back from the water side table so still a nice "view" service was a bit slow but nothing to really not go back over. Not a huge dessert selection but our meals were huge and my food was really good. I would give it a try if especially if you are on the dining plan..that way you won't feel to upset if you don't love it

We've always enjoyed our meals at San Angel. I do think the atmosphere is worth it alone, and we've never had an issue with the food either. I think you just need to go in with the thought that, it likely will not be the best Mexican meal you've ever had. But I find myself using this thought process for most of my meals at Disney. I think sometimes we set the bar too high, and all there can be is disappointment.

San Angel was our first table service experience at EPCOT years and years and years ago. We ate there again in October and weren't quite as enamoured with the cuisine (an attempt to "yuppify" mexican cuisine is how one of my authentic Mexican friends describes it), but enjoyed the meal just the same. You can request a table by the water when you make your ressies or when checking in (as with Rose & Crown patio) but will have to wait longer than you would otherwise. Keep in mind too that tables are set up for specific numbers of people and we found that they are, during peak times, reluctant to seat two at a table that can accommodate more.
