We have booked to go here for Lunch for the first time and I was wondering if anyone has been. Is the food/portions ok? Is is just like Chiquito over here? I have been inside for the ride but never eaten there.

Ive wanted to eat here for YEARS but for some reason I always end up with it not on my ADR list :confused3

There are so many places that i havent tried that this place as much as i want to try it does not get great enough reviews for me to actually book!

I love Chiquitos & so would be pretty happy if it was anything like that,I know that as soon as i walk in to do the ride ill be gutted i didnt book again.....Hopefully they will have walk ups available so i can grab lunch and watch the boats go by

I know Wayne has been and enjoyed - if you can find his Live report from July there will be pics.

We are hoping to try it in October for lunch.

We have eaten there three times, always enjoyed it. I love the atmosphere and the service has always been good and I have not had anything there that is too spicey. Downside is you realy do need to book this in advance, every time we have been we have seen folks turning up on spec and being turned away.

The restaurant itself and the atomosphere are both great but I found the food to be very bland. I much prefer La Hacienda, which seems more authentic to me.

These are the type of reviews that i have read quite a few of! Which is why i havent actually gotten round to booking even though i love the look of the place!

The one thing that is putting me off is how dark the restaurant is.

My pet hate is not being able to see my food whilst I'm eating.

Maybe not the place for you then. We got our phones out and used the torch facility to read the menus.:rotfl:

Thankyou for the replies. I just wanted to try different restaurants as when i was younger we always did the character meals.

I agree. San Angel is more Tex-Mex, whereas La Hacienda is more traditional/authentic Mexican. It's on the pricey side, though. At San Angel I had Mole Poblano and for once I didn't have food envy! It was delicious and, looking around the table at what others had ordered, I was congratulating myself on my choice.

Mine, too, although I seem to remember that it doesn't seem as dark when you're actually in it as it appears from the outside.

We eat diner here in the summer. San Angel Inn was our worst meal of the trip but know that some like it.

The atmosphere, setting and darkness were part of the charm that encouraged us to try it.
