So I guess people have not have good experiences at Mexico TS. Why? Has anyone enjoyed it? Thought to go for lunch. Should I not.

We (me, DH, DD 18 mo. at the time) went to San Angel for lunch. We had the first ADR of the day so we were sat right away.

Our server was great and very patient as DD did not like the "mood" lighting. :) The food was excellent!! I would def. go back if DH would agree, but he wanted to try different restaurants this trip.

If you have any specific questions, I can try to answer them for you.

Nope, never had a really good experience here. As I've said before, it's one of those places that I want to like b/c the setting is so nice & I love authentic mexican food (that's what years of living in San Diego, Texas & Florida will do for you), but the place is always too dark, too crowded, poor service and soggy tasteless food)...I seem to give it another try about every 2 years or so (hoping for improvement), but as of my most recent trip there a few months ago, I've got to stick by my "no" recommendation - eat somewhere else, you'll enjoy it more (even the outside CS is much better)....

We thought the food was just awful. We are used to very good, authentic Mexican food and this was not it.

The restaurant is pretty though.

We loved the food, the service and the place itself was just great. If I had to say anything negative it would be that it's very dark. I don't think I could see what I was eating.

the atmoshere was gorgeous!! and it was so nice to eat in a environment like that-- i am not really big on mexican cusine and had a hard time seeing what i was eating, and was not big on the food but its a very pleasant place to eat:) and the service was good

We had the same question yesterday... seems most people were positive on this thread about San Angel

Yeah, seems like this question comes up about once a month on here, and I typically try to keep my opinion on it to myself (b/c you know what they say about opinions), but every once in a while I chime in my 2c...FWIW, since it might help the OP, here's the link to another thread on the same question from February...http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=23282493

Anyway, like most of the other restaurants @ WDW, people have a variety of opinions. Some like it, some hate it, some just think it could be better....me, I've just had too many experiences there that did not live up to my expectations to let me give the place a thumbs up....and it used to be that I could soothe my disappointment by going on a ride on El Rio Del Tiempo, but I'm not a fan of the remodel that replaced the culture of the ride with the mockery of the three amigos, so now even that has lost its luster for me....thankfully there are many other pavillions for me to go to in order to keep my positive vibes and enjoy the variety...

We like eating here -- love the atmosphere and the dos Equis. Like PP says though, you'll get tons of contradictory opinions here.....

We have eaten there many times and enjoyed it although I haven't met too many Mexican dinners I didn't scarf down! We love our Mexican food but I am not sure what authentic really is since I have only eaten it in the United States! Mexico is a huge country with lots of regions, so perhaps there is more than one kind of true blue Mexican food :confused3 . I am amazed at how it varies on my travels around the U.S. I do know that lots of Americans are used to the Tex Mex variety and San Angel is not that style. Its pretty similar to some of the places we have here in Colorado. Its nothing like what I have had in California, Chicago, Iowa, Florida,Texas, Arizona, the New England area and the DC area (those are the places I can think of off hand that I have eaten Mexican food and its pretty much tasted different in all of those). Mexican food is by far my favorite cuisine and San Angel isn't the best I have had. But its still been good and I enjoy the atmosphere. I like the tortilla soup and the filet the best. Service has always been fine for us. It is dark in there for sure!

It has its critics and its fans, and yes this question gets asked quite a bit on the dis! I used to always give my opinion that I like it but unfortunately I have been called downright stupid by a poster or two that didn't agree. So I keep more quiet now. But in the end, I enjoy it very much as does my Mexican Food addicted husband. I do have to agree there are way too many tables in there. We didn't eat there with my fil because he is unable to walk more than a few steps and there was no way we could have gotten his ECCV through that place. I also seem to wait longer to get seated there than any other place in WDW. Its always packed in there.

The atmosphere is beautiful. The food is good- typicalof what you can probaby find in a nice local place. What we hated was it was overcrowded and we felt like we were sharing a tble with the people on either side of us! Plus we waited 45 min with an ADR which I know can happen but I don't like when it does:rotfl: 20 min I do not mind 45- seems too much.

I ate there last June with my mom. We enjoyed our meals (both had the Mahi-Mahi). We arrived about 15 minutes before our ADR and were seated quite quickly. Our server was nice, answered our questions about the menu and check on us throughout the meal. I agree that the tables are quite close, but I wasn't bothered by that.

All-in-all we had a nice relaxing dinner and would go back again.

Thank you all for your posts. I feel so much better about this choice and can't wait. I do feel stupid though because after I posted I found the one from yesterday asking almost the same thing....sorry. :goodvibes My future DH and I love both types tex mex and more true latin food plus we wanted something romantic so its perfect for us. :yay:

Don't you just love it when someone tells you you're wrong and you didn't like that place you actually hated it? :lmao:

Many people think their opinions are FACT not OPINION!

Yeah, I do have to laugh when that happens to me or anyone else! We can't all like the same things and frankly while I love this board, it can make planning so hard. You pick a place, you see a bad review, you change ADR to another place, you see it gets a bad review... I don't think San Angel is the end all be all of Mexican dining but then I haven't found anything in the World Showcase that is. But I haven't had a bad meal either, just not something so over the top wonderful that I would stake my life its the real deal of that country.

Well said:thumbsup2

My OPINION of San Angel Inn is...Yum! We usually make a point of eating there once during each trip. If you are looking for a more "value" meal, I would suggest the cantina outside. But if you dining experience also hinges on atmosphere and comfort, then I would recommend San Angel Inn.

Now, please keep in mind that there are very few Mexican meals that I have met and haven't enjoyed. In fact, I have been known to judge entire meals based on whether or not it has included guacamole! I don't consider San Angel Inn as the best meal, but it is memorable because of the ambience. Also, if you are visiting WDW during the hotter months, I think San Angel is a nice meal to get out of the sun for an hour or so and enjoy the coolness.

Ultimately, only you will know if San Angel is right for you, judging by your like/dislike for Mexican food. If you are a Mexican food fan in the least, I would recommend trying San Angel once. I would rather try something once and hate it, than never try something because people on a messageboard dissuaded me.

I think Froggygrrl said just what I was trying to say but said it better!

We liked it last year. DH had the filet served with black beans/rice/plantains and he said that it was ten times better that the ones he had eaten at Le Cellier and Concourse.

I had the chicken served over cheese/peppers. It was okay, I don't think you can go wrong with that combination.

The only downside was that none of the desserts appealed to us.

The best part was that it was POURING down rain outside during dinner, so we had a warm an dry place to sit instead of milling around with the rest of the hordes wearing wet ponchos that had crowded into the pavilion.
