Years ago we did San Angel Inn on every trip, we always loved the atmosphere, however we had less than favorable experiences the last few times and haven't been there in at least 5 years. We booked an ADR for our April trip as we really miss it, but are a little skeptical, has anyone been there recently?

If you are wondering about our qualms, it is with the service and the food, we felt very, very rushed, and the food was standard at best. Thanks in advance.

Eh. IMO the CS next to it is much better. But San Angel is better than the one inside the pyramid, and you can prob get much better Mexican food at home.

We ate there in January last year - from various postings and such online we didn't have high hopes but we had never dined there before and I loved the atmosphere so I didn't care too much. It actually ended up being one of my fav meals that trip (DH agreed) so you never know :) the service wasn't the best we had all trip, but it wasn't horrid, either.

Negative reviews had prevented us from booking, but since my DD cannot eat wheat, we gave it a go...and were nicely surprised at how tasty everything was!

It was a standout meal for us! We had a great waitress who explained to us the different dishes in detail and was really fun to talk to about her culture. Food was outstanding! Think Mexican comfort food and not tex mex and you won't be disappointed. We were there the last week of Feb this year.

San Angel Inn IS the one inside the pyramid.

La Hacienda is next to the CS.

My bad. I can't stand the one inside the pyramid, she just had it in Oct. Trying to give it another chance, yeah it still didn't impress us.

No I can't. As much as I have tried to prepare good Mexican food at home I just can't seem to get it right. I've given up and head to my favorite Mexican restaurant. :rotfl2::lmao:

To the OP. This is one of the restaurants (SAI) I had previously avoided for several years because of reviews like the one above and others. I am still convinced it's because many (not all) go in there thinking it is like their local Tex/Mex restaurant serving up taco's, burritos, Tamals and Fajitas along with the rice and re-fried beans and when they discover it's not like that they are disappointed. All I can say is this is one place that I finally tried and am glad I did. We enjoy it and it is one of my favorite restaurants in the World Showcase. But hey, we all have different opinions and I always suggest to take the positive and the negative reviews with a grain of salt and try them out for yourself and form your own opinion. If I would have listened to restaurant opinions here on the DIS I would love LeCellier and hate San Angel Inn... For me it's just the opposite, and this is true for many other restaurants that are loved or hated by many.

We just ate there in January. We loved it! We were there for a late lunch, and it was not busy at all, so we didn't feel rushed. We really enjoyed our meal.

I have only had one disappointing experience at SAI, and I have been eating there since 1985.

My best friend studied in Mexico City when she was in college, and SAI is a must do for her every trip. In her opinion it is the most authentic traditional Mexican food she can find in the states.

While I have enjoyed the architectural addition of La Hacienda, I have had more bad experiences than good when dining there My vote is always for SAI. The combination of food and atmosphere, in my opinion, is hard to beat.

Yes.

OP- SAI was one of our favorite meals in December and is on our rotation for our upcoming December trip. The food was delicious, the service was stellar, and the atmosphere? Well it is lovely!!!

We have enjoyed our recent meals there. The food isn't completely authentic, but it's definitely a step above the QS. Plus you can't beat the atmosphere or the avocado margaritas!!!!!!

San Angel Inn has become a must do for lunch for every trip now. It is a lot less crowded at lunch and we've had good service. The food is good, too. :) We've eaten there most recently in January and February of this year.

Let me start off by saying I'm a big fan of SAI and have ate there everytime I've been to Disney with the family for 10 years.

When I went there the first time, I was just a little suprised that it was not a normal "Mexican" food restaraunt you find at home. I asked for queso dip and they told me that wasn't even on the menu for the kids. Kinda drained the experience. (In the past couple of years, you can get queso now though :) )

But my entree saved the meal. It was phenomenal. I think I get a different meal each time I go. The food just keeps getting better and better. It helps to broaden your horizons a little bit.

This was my experience just this past February:

Got there early. The pyramid was packed and there was a line outside the tequila bar which I never experienced before.

Got seated at a table over to the right we weren't thrilled about. It's over there near the bathrooms and you just kinda lose some of the ambiance.

So just get started on some chips and soup when this lady is walking to the bathroom and falls down right behind us and hits her head.

There were so many different CMs on the scene (some security guys with devices in their ear looking like the secret service). So my family and I are still just trying to make the best of it. I HATE complaining.

Then to top it all off, apparently the lady had a few too many margaritas and puked all over the floor. The big problem with this was that you could now smell sour tequila and food while we were eating.

I flagged the manager down and told him we needed to be moved due to the smell and the sound of the woman dryheaving into a trash can (which sounded like something out of your worst nightmare)

Within seconds, I watched the manager tell the hostess, and she immediately came and got my family and I and moved us to the main dining area away from that shop of horrors.

The food ended up being the best I've had since going there. Just a great night minus the whathaveyou.

I would highly recommend, but just don't go expecting On the Border or you will be disappointed.

I agree with what many have said on this thread. We ended up eating there on the spur of the moment when we were at Epcot one evening. It was my favorite meal of the week. I know it gets poor reviews and had a terrible review by Kevin and John, but I'd give it a try.
