Samsung stainless steel refrigerator

We have this kind, too. We bought it last year--the house had a tiny fridge, way too small for a family of 6, and when the milk shelf on the door broke, we had to upgrade (such a shame!). We got a really good deal on this particular fridge--someone had ordered it, but then it didn't fit so it came back to Lowe's. So, it was marked down AND on sale, so we got a $2300 fridge for $1300.

At any rate, we love the fridge so much. Like Lorimay said, the drawer is my favorite feature--it can hold a pizza box or platter, you can choose a separate temperature, and food seems to stay fresher longer. We've had no issues with the ice or water. The front shows a few smudges, but is easily wiped off (I'm not that picky). It's important to remember that the front is curved, and won't hold a magnet. We stick magnets on the side.

I would love to find a deal like that!!!

It WAS a great deal! It was funny, because it was clearly a return (but everything was still wrapped in plastic), so it was marked down. Then there was the sale, so DH goes, "Why should I buy this one (returned) for only $50 less than an identical new one?" They promptly applied the sale price to the returned fridge. We couldn't sign the paperwork fast enough! I probably would have chosen a much plainer model, if it weren't for that deal--I'm pretty cheap.

Thanks ZellyB - do you like the refrigerator? Do you hear of many problems with them? Around here LG seems to have more issues than Samsung....

We do like it a lot and we haven't had any issues with it. We've also got the French door style with the pull out freezer drawer. It's been a good fridge for us so far.

We bought a Samsung French door fridge in 2012. We've had lots of problems with it. The ice maker problem as previously mentioned, lots of condensation problems to the point of freezing up in the refrigerator part, not just the freezer. I like the French doors, but I won't buy another Samsung. Btw, we have a repair man who tells us this is common in Samsung models.

*sigh* so what brand of refrigerator IS really reliable? I hear problems with just about every manufacturer but it's hard to put them in context, kwim? Hearing from repair people though usually gets my attention. I have one of the first french doors made when the model first came out and I am really happy with it, it's a KitchenAid. Lately it's been louder and run more often, which makes me suspect the compressor. But in the past day or so it's seemed quieter (since I started looking at replacements lol) so I'm not in such a hurry to replace it - hope saying that doesn't jinx it!

My friend has a Samsung fridge that's less than 3 years old. A shelf broke and her DH spent DAYS on the phone trying to get the part shipped. When it finally came, it was the wrong one! She's not thrilled with Samsung....
I bought the Weiman SS cleaner and hated it (very streaky). I get great results on my kenmore with Windex.

I have an older side by side Samsung fridge from 2004. It still works well. The ice maker gets jammed occasionally, but it's no big deal. The stainless we have must be the brushed one because we don't get fingerprints.

My MIL has an LG fridge and they had to replace it twice after she bought it due to various issues.
It seems like more things nowadays don't have good reliability anymore.

My fridge is a 16 year old GE with no ice make in basic white. It has the freezer on top and is your basic fridge. I have wanted to replace that thing for so long but have never been able to convince myself to do so.

The reason being in that in the same time frame all my neighbors (we all moved into a new development at the same time) have all replaced their fridges multiple times. My sister has had four fridges in that time that have either broken completely or just kept needing endless repairs.

The appliances they make now are crap...really. I honestly believe they have a built in life span of five years max.

We replaced our 20 year old washing machine about 8 months ago. The brand new one has already had problems three different times. Soooo annoying.

Remember when your grandmother had a new appliance? It basically lasted them their entire married lives.

We have come to the conclusion, that when buying new appliances these days, you have to budget in the extended warranty, because of all the fancy computer boards and what not, they just don't last.

When we bought our first new house in 1997, we had basic Whirlpool appliances. In 2004 they were all running fine, I just wanted stainless so
we put the fridge in the garage and that thing just kept chugging along, we left it for the knew owners. I suspect it will last forever, no computer.
In 2013 the fridge and stove both went at the same time and we had to replace them all again, 9 years, its crazy.
The stove part was $450 and a new stove was $100 more.
Just don't make them they they use to.

We have the original whirlpool duet front loader and bought those in 2003. They still run well.
The whole electronics in everything makes me hesitant about replacing appliances. Eventually I will have to, but hopefully not anytime soon. My grandma's 50s style fridge lasted 40 years or so. Was it as energy efficient as today's? No, but it was built to last forever.

I have the Samsung French door. Hate trying to keep it clean and smudge free. If water drips down the front, there is a stain. I am good about whipping up the spills not so much for DH. It does not keep soda cold enough for our liking. Would not buy another one.

What about the new one that Kristin bell and her husband are selling... Kids birthday party.. He's at the store . Uses phone to see in fridge to check for eggs?
It's either Samsung or LG..
Bet it won't work with all the iPhones in our home? Lol

I have the Samsung french door with drink drawer. Love the drink drawer since you can have your drinks colder than the rest of the fridge. It does smudge but I don't think it's difficult to clean.

I had a GE profile, piece of garbage(compressor replaced twice in 3 years, 6 service calls) and finally the hinge broke on one door($800 to replace, uh, No). Ended up getting an LG french door, bottom freezer. It has the "trimline ice maker" which is awesome and takes up no space in the freezer(built into the left refrigerator door and very flat). Extremely quiet(which the GE never was). I clean with stainless cleaner, but then go over it with a tiny bit of olive oil on a soft cloth. No streaks! Just have to keep the dog from licking the fridge!

I have two stainless steel refrigerators, one an LG and the other a Samsung. The Samsung is by FAR easier to keep clean than the LG. I use something called "Magic" brand cleaner, and it is by far the best as far as I'm concerned. The Samsung only needs cleaning occasionally, but the LG...heck, I could clean that everyday (which I don't) and it would still look smudgy.

We have the French door one with the freezer on the bottom. With kids it never stays clean. I have the wipes they work ok. If I had to do it over again I would not buy a stainless fridge till my kids are out of the house

Anyone with Samsung stainless steel appliances - can you tell me how hard they are to keep relatively clean given that the finish is not smudge resistant? I'm specifically looking at the refrigerator but suspect the same SS is used for all their appliances......

Thanks!

Have you considered a Frigidaire? They have smudge-free stainless steel. We love ours & so far we have not noticed any smudges!
