Samsung Galaxy III and battery issues

My phone is about 1 year old. I know batteries don't last the same, and will eventually hold a charge less and less. However, mine was fine until about 2 or 3 days ago. It goes from full charge to no charge in about 3 hours without even using it. I have the screen saver on and it goes black fairly quickly. I don't even use it very much. My dd was out shopping yesterday evening and had texted me. I texted her back and put it on bed beside of me just in case she texted me again. I picked it up and the back seemed very hot.

Anyone else have this problem with this phone? It makes me very grumpy as it is fully charged at bed time. I don't want to turn the phone off at night in case I don't wake up in the morning or forget to turn it back on before my dd leaves for school. She is a new driver, and I want to hear if she has any problems on her way to school. Also have elderly parents. Then 3 hours later it is beeping telling me to plug it in and it has been on dark the whole time. I have trouble sleeping. If I get woken up it is hard for me to go back to sleep. Hence, the reason I am up at 3 am right now. Stupid phone.

So what would cause a phone to go from holding charge all day to only a few hours?

I had the same issue a few weeks ago. I went to the repair store for my provider and had them order a new battery for me. I have the insurance also. Took about 2 days but I'm happy as can be now that my battery is holding a charge.

It's probably time to replace the battery. If your phone continues to drain the battery after you get a new one, then there may be an issue with your phone. My daughter's S3 was doing this earlier in the summer, and we got the phone replaced a couple of times, and now it's fine. We have insurance coverage with Best Buy, and they were great about working through this issue to get her a phone that didn't drain her battery.

Call them and get you to send a battery to you. We did & we did not even have insurance. :thumbsup2

About 3 months ago (phone was probably 6 months old at that time), this happened to me. One day while at work, my phone felt very hot and the charge dropped very rapidly. I found a thread about it on some Samsung forum, and evidently, certain applications (the main culprit being the gallery application) can cause some type of "looping" effect once in a blue moon and it will make you lose your charge very quickly. Sure enough, I had been flipping through pics in the gallery earlier that day. The advice was to turn off the phone and reboot it a couple of times. Worked for me. If you've already done that, I agree with the others that you might just have to get a new battery.

I had turned it off early this morning after it was charged again and restarted. You're right. This appears to fix it. I don't use the apps or the gallery, so not sure why.

This just happened to me. My phone was even losing charge while it was plugged in to the charger. Lucky it was still under warranty, and I received my replacement yesterday. I absolutely hate the Galaxy, and I can't wait until I can get a new phone. I'm definitely going back to the iPhone!
