Samsung Focus

I received the Samsung Focus from my DH this Christmas. It's an awesome phone, but there is flaw. When I set the alarm and have my phone on silent it does not go off in the morning. I am a heavy sleeper and my DH wakes up through the night when I have the volume on 1 when facebook/e-mail notifications come through. Anyone with this phone having the same problem? Is there anything I can do to change the settings? Thanks!!
