Samsung 1600 BluRay heads up!

just purchased a Samsung BD1600 wireless ready BluRay from Best Buy for a great price ( $135.00) so we thought! Get it home and hook it up and try to program for wireless connectivity as this player states right on the box wireless ready!

Let's just say BULL! It is wireless ready if you purchase a USB adaptor from Samsung to the tune of $90!

We will not be purchasing this item and best buy will be getting this player back.

Just wanted to let other budget boarders know since these players are on sale and seem to be a great buy.....NOT

Yeah if you had done a little research you'd have found that the Insiginia for 179.99 is the only true(out of the box) WiFi blu ray player.

Really????Thank you. It was an in the store purchase did not go there intending to buy a blu ray player, so I had done "0" research.

I find it difficult to believe that Insignia is the only out of the box true wifi ready bluray though.

I just bought this blu-ray - it is a great blu-ray but you are right that it is not out of the box ready. I needed wireless access in there for my tivo anyway so I bought a powerline adapter to run wireless in there. I remember them telling me that Samsung had an out of the box wifi model.

My theory was that is costs about $100 for the powerline but I can plug other devices into it. You will be paying more for a device that is wifi capable but for just a little bit more, you can basically wire your whole house. (A powerline plugs from your computer into your wall and then you can plug adapters into any outlet at your house and access your network) With so many things heading towards wifi - having your whole house "wired" is very appealing!

I just wanted to point out to you so in the future you know what you are buying. That READY means just that it is ready it is not capable to do the function unless you add something... so you are looking for a built-in Wifi BluRay player and there are not many out there right now... as the PP stated that maybe the only one that is... when new techonologies come out it takes sometime to get them on the shelf. I will say to that if you want a big name brand with that in it you are going to pay a pretty penny.

There are other BR players with built-in wireless connectivity out there, but they cost more than BB's "Insignia" brand...

BUDGET TIP: For AT&T U-verse subscribers, you can connect any "network ready" Blu-ray player to your home network with a simple $5 "patch" (ethernet) cable connected to both the Blu-ray player and the U-verse box.

Though I am yet to see one of their boxes, I suspect this would work for Verizon's FiOS, also...

We need a wireless connection because there is no ethernet cable long enough to reach into the living room, my wireless router is in the office and I do not want to run a cable from there to the living room (distance too great)

Our LG BluRay is wifi actual, not ready! When we first started looking we wanted to be able to stream Netflix. A few peeks at the boxes revealed that the 2 different types.

We use our PS3 for bluray (spectacular - you will love bluray), and I think it was ready to go out of the box. I hooked it up myself and simply plugged in HDMI cables so far as I recall. It has internet for the playstation store and streams netflix. The wireless router is in our home office (another room) as well.

May be an idea! Thanks for the reminder about PS3 being an option. We do love BluRay we have a sony bluray player (old as the hills-first generation LOL) no wireless ability or internet ability for that matter,

We just need to upgrade and when I was in best buy today to get something else saw this player and thought, wireless, whynot and a great price, not so great since it needs this "dongle" thingee!

Snark gets you no where with me. This is the budget board and most of us don't spend that much money without a little research first. It's just as easy to run an ethernet to your router they come in many lengths.

It was not what I consider a lot of money for a Blu Ray player and yes running an Ethernet cable would be an option if I wanted to tear out the ceiling downstairs to hide the wires to run it from the office to the living room or we could just tripped over exposed Ethernet cables going from room to room from the office to the living room.

Oh and this being the budget board this is a great buy for anyone that needs a blu ray and wireless connectivity is not an issue. I did not want to leave the store, go home and research and run the risk of it not being there if I went back to get it. I was posting a heads up for two reasons, it's a good buy and if you are looking for a blu ray with full wireless abilities this one is not it.
