Samoa building at Poly

Aloha, Steve!

That's right it was Pago Pago - thanks!

Tell you what - I'll do some hunting through the old scrapbooks and see if I can find the room number for Ohau. Might take me until after I return on the 2nd, but I am sure I have it some place; I've saved everything.

We also stayed in the now Aotearoa - only semi bad experience we ever had, but the front desk manager sent a basket of fruit and other goodies with an apology note for the Mouse Himself!
I wonder if the same would happen today, but I'm not so sure. So many people, so many complaints! Anyway, looks like they cleaned up around the monorail side of Aotearoa for the first floor corner patios - smart move!

I'll do my best to locate that room number - It was 22 yrs ago last July. Time flies!!
Aloha!

I'm going to be checking in to the Poly on Sunday, and was wondering if there are any rooms or sides of buildings I should avoid accepting? Right now I have a garden view reservation, non-concierge, but was thinking of asking how much an upgrade to lagoon view would be at checkin. I guess what I'm asking is, are there any really bad views, like just a plain parking lot view or dumpster view or something I should try to avoid?

Lots of the Garden views are beautiful, but there are some parking lot - although not like other parking lots. If you want a great longhouse, near a pool and GCH I would suggest asking for
Tokelau. Or go to Tikiman's web site, read his explantions of the longhouses (excellent) and print out the resort map or take notes with you to have at check-in. It is ALWAYS better to be prepared and ask for a particular location.

Not sure if I am allowed to post Tikiman's url, but I'll try:

This is a link to Tokelau longhouse, but you can get back to the index by clicking on the palm tree! Great Poly site!

Enjoy! We'll be arriving on the 9/27 :)

We had a great garden view, but I saw many that I wouldn't have been happy with. The CM who checked us in was very helpful. I told her that I wanted a 3rd floor with the best garden view possible. She put us in FIJI 3rd floor over looking the beach, lagoon and GF wedding pavilion. I was thrilled!

Great info everyone! Thank you! I guess I'll try to request a good building at checkin. Still unsure about whether the lagoon view is worth 100 dollars more per night. I'm so indecisive.....

Welll, it's relaly a personal choice. I've never really wanted a lagoon view at the Poly enough to pay the extra $ becasue so many of the garden views are so pretty and I like seeing other folks pass by, see the kids smiling (or tried;) - it's part of the enchantment for me. Just like any view, even though you are paying for a lagoon view you might not get the view you've dreamed of..why not check out Tikiman's site and request one of the building where you can get some of the lagoon in for a garden room price??? Might be the perfect solution!!

I'm sooo excited for you! Have fun!! Are you leaving tomorrow - the 19th? YEAH!!! if not until next Sunday, then we'll be there at the same time :o)

You are going to have such an awesome vacation!!!!

not counting today or the 27th, 7 days to Poly:wave2:

Thanks Christine! I'm checking in tomorrow the 19th. And, I just solved the problem of the view. I just called up and upgraded to lagoon view. It was $95 more per night, but at least now I don't have to worry about the view. I guess I was kind of scared, because I had a bad experience at Animal Kingdom Lodge with standard view, where I could see billboards from the local highway and stuff. After looking over the Polynesian map and Tikiman's site, it looked like most garden view rooms would be ok, but there still was a chance of getting a parking lot view in Rapa Nui or the 3rd floors of Raratonga or maybe Aetearoa. And for 200-300 per night, I just didn't want a parking lot view, and with my luck that's just where I would have ended up. I'm often given handicapped rooms (which I don't mind in itself), but guess which building is handicapped- Rapa Nui! LOL So, I'm taking people's advice that I've read over and over, which is "book the view you want ahead of time" LOL. If I could have guaranteed a nice garden view I would have stuck with that, because some of those garden views look very pretty as well, and I could have lived without a lagoon view, but oh well. Looking over the Polynesian map, I was surprised at how few of the rooms were lagoon view. Just one side of Tahiti, one side of Tuvalu, one side of Hawaii concierge, and about half of one side of Aotearoa. Everything else is garden view. So now I guess I understand why they put a little more premium on the lagoon views, since there aren't very many. Maybe I'm being overly cautious, but I just wouldn't have been happy with one of the parking lot rooms.
Hope you have a good trip too!

What a great choice picking Poly after your last visit! After our 1997 visit to the former Dixie Landing and one offisite visit in 2001, I started serious research and found so much stuff on the Poly conceirge that I convinced myself that I had to try it. So we went Thanksgiving week 2003. It definently lived up to all of my expectations and more. My kids were dd12, dd10 and dd3. Beware everyone had such a good time that they don't want to stay anywhere else.Except may the GF. Noise was never a problem for us. I think next trip I will not be able to swing conceirge but really thought of requesting Raratonga (spelling?).

This trip I found so much out about myself. I am a monrail snob!!! The walk to TTTC was not bad at all. The bus service was not great and next time I will consider driving to AK and MGM. We were there during a busy time but you would have never known that judging by our resort. It was always peacefull.
Sorry to get off topic about building choice. Just wanted to talk up my Poly!

You can PM me if you have any specific questions.

Have a great time!!

Michele
