We just returned from our honeymoon on the Disney Magic (10/14-10/21), after being married in Massachusetts (10/7).
For those of you who haven't cruised with Disney, the first night there is a game called "Match Your Mate" which is similar to the old "Newlyweds" game show. The host chooses three couples from the audience: the most recently wed, those married the longest, and an "in between" couple.
When the host asked for newlywed couples to raise their hands, we put ours in the air. You could see on his face that the host was thrown for a moment, but he stepped up and was great. Since we were the newest newlyweds, we were chosen as "Couple #1"!
The host's question cards were labeled "ladies" and "gentlemen" but he did a great job of keeping everything gender neutral; the husbands for the other couples both sat on the right, so the host sent "everyone on the right out of earshot" (into a nearby club) while I and the other wives answered our questions . . . Beth and I matched up all the questions on that round (neither of the other couples got more than one correct), but fell apart on the final round and ended up coming in second for the game.
The best part of the experience? The number of people who came up to us -- that night and throughout the week -- and commented on how glad they were that we'd participated. Some were CMs (surprise!) but many were straight couples just being supportive.
It was wonderful having an entire ship wishing us well as newlyweds!
