how does it work? What if I have 20 points left from each and need 1 night that costs 40?

You'll have to call MS as you cannot combine points from different memberships to book a night. MS will transfer points from one membership to your other membership and book the night for you. Since you have different memberships you won't be able to see the transferred points online.

Rules say that you may transfer points once per use year per membership, either into your account or out of it, but not both in the same year. If you transfer between your memberships, you will use up the entitlement for both for the use years in question. MS has been known to ignore that "one-transfer" rule when you are making a reservation for yourself, but you can't count on that.

ugh, thanks. If I have 2 contracts, same resort and same UY, I wouldn't have to worry about transferring, right, or would I?

This is frustrating. We're looking for VGC contracts and need at least 300 points. Oct UY is ideal, but thought we'd also take Aug and Sept as well. But most contracts we see are under 300, so I thought of putting two 150-160 point contracts together. But I'm nervous about locking myself in even more having to find the same use year. From what I remember of the UY distribution chart, I thought Sept and Oct were some of the lowest issued? I'm looking for a unicorn!

We're in the process of purchasing a VGC contract and there are actually quite a few. The Timeshare store has a 320 point contract (and a 500 point :crazy2:) and DVC Resale Market has a ton with same UY if you want to go that route.

The 320 is Feb UY which is terrible for us and the 500 pts are too many and no points until 2018. We just offered on the 160 aug UY. Eeek!

Good luck! Ours is a 160 March UY and passed ROFR last month. :o

Good luck!! I have a September UY, and it DID feel like a unicorn search! I'm waiting on ROFR for a Poly contract right now. The UY has worked out really well for us though, as nearly every DVC trip we plan is October or December.

One option you have if you want the September and October contracts is to use them every other year with banking and borrowing. For example, if you want to go in November, you could use your current September 2017 points and borrow your 2018 points. Next year, you use the Oct 2018 UY points with either banked points from 2017 or borrowed points from 2019. By doing this, instead of transferring points, you can see all of the available points for use. If the two contracts are titled the same, they will both show up in your DVC member account online. Just a thought.

We actually have all of our AKV points in one UY with the exception of a small 50 pointer. I just end up booking the first few days of a stay and then call MS to transfer the 50 points into my other UY and have them tack additional days on the end. It has been fairly easy to do for the past 6 years.

That has been my experience down to allowing transfer of banked/borrowed points and more than one a year when it was needed to secure a single nights reservation.

I wouldn't buy a separate UY in most situations without a specific plan to use them separately, esp at the same resort for this very reason.
