i have been to florida many times now, and want some new restaurants to try in the kissimmee area, my family usually goes to:

Ponderosa
Sizzler
Perkins
Olive Garden
Western Stern (sp)

but i wanna try some new ones, i heard that these are good, what are your views on them....

Outback Steakhouse??
Bahama Breeze??
Houlihans??
Golden Corral??

No Disney/Universal restaurants please, i want the close to my villa in the kissimmee area please.

any other good ones, comments opinons please????

We like the Outback. Their seasoning is a little spicey so if you don't like seasoning then ask for it without. I usually get a steak, but once I got a burger and it was the best burger I have ever had. Their blooming onion is good too, but it also has that seasoning on it.

What end of kissimmee are you talking about? East off Poinciana or Formosa gardens area?

Very big dif. in what I would suggest. Deb

Houlihan's is good but can be pretty pricey.

Outback is always good. I've never been to the other ones you listed.

How about Fridays?

Or better yet there's a place called Beef O'Brady's it's in the Vista Del lago shopping plaza on 192 outside Disney, it's cheap and yummy. They also have a bunch of other locations around Orlando/Kissimmee.http://www.beefobradys.com/

Steak-n Shake is really great too, full service, reasonable prices and really great steak burgers and shakes.http://www.steaknshake.com/default-home.asp

Bob Evans- great breakfast and good for other meals as well.

um i guessing Formosa Gardens, as in W. Irlo Bronson Memorial Hwy

We always make a trip to Logan's Roadhouse on 192 just east of WDW. The have great steaks, peanuts on the tables, and the best buns. :thumbsup2 Service is always top notch. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Bahama Breeze is excellent, my pick for best "chain" restaurant in Orlando (and I know many DISers agree). Excellent food, always good service, and an incredibly immersive atmoshphere. I really like Houihans as well, good food and service. Keep in mind both of these are somewhat pricey compared to the "regular haunts" you listed.

If you like Olive Garden, consider Romano's Macaroni Grill, as well. Similar, but I think the quality of the food is a step up.

If you are looking to stay close to home here is a list. These are at the corner of 192 west and FGBlvd

Outback steaks, chops,
Carrabbas italian
taco bell mexi
giordanos italian deep dish pizza
cracker barrel southern fair
red lobster seafood
chinese not very good
TGI Fridays variety
dairy queen soft serve

I agree that Bahama Breeze is great and so is Dixie Crossind but the are not close by. Hope this helps with meal planning.

HIGHLY recommended for a different pizza experience. Be aware that service can be slow as the pizzas take a long time to prepare (deep dish). Go early in your stay as you may wish to go a second time before you leave.

Giordano's was my favorite Chicago pizza when I lived in Illinois. now I have one less than ten minutes away from our house, another recommendation.

Bahama Breeze is another good choice.

Thanks for this thread. I was just talking to DH about eating outside Disney. We will have our car this time and would like to venture out and eat at places other than Disney.

I see lots of chains being mentioned. Are there any really good local or unique places? What about good seafood?

We always like to go off the beaten past, and end up with some pretty memorable meals.

I have had many good meals in some of the chain restaurants but I have no idea what is local. Most of us are down in the area for a few weeks at most. If I ever hear of any I will post it for sure.

For us it is a busy time and we do get out of the area seeing we stay off site but still not far from the strips. Meaning I drive. 535, 192, and so on.

I will ask on the EI forum and at the club house and see if I get anything and get back on the Dis and post for you.

Try the Ale House... especially mid week!

:dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

Here's another vote for the Orlando Ale House. It's a family friendly sports themed bar/restaurant. Great prices and good, basic food :thumbsup2

This is what I got so far

Key W. Kools
is a great local steakhouse. It's on 192 about 1/4 mile east of Formosa Gardens on the west-bound side. It's an oak-pit BBQ and the age and marinate their steaks on premisis. Best steak I ever had in my life.

Just been to Orlando Ale house for 1st time this evening, WOW superb food, service and atmosphere.
5 of us started with a shared starter Nachos covered in cheese and chicken, how big can a starter be, this thing was a mountain. If only 2 people this would be more than enough for your whole meal and I can eat a lot of food. $9 was very cheap for this, We then went on to main course wishing we had shared these also. I had battered shrimp parmasan and could only eat half, actually all 5 of us only ate half our meals. Fish and chips had 3 pieces of fish with chips.
Whole meal and drinks about $70 for 5 plus $12 tip what a bargain. They do lunch specials for around $5. and Fosters larger at $2/pint all day every day.
We will be going again.

the ale house sounds great :cheer2: can u get me address... or atleast the street it was on thanks...

We enjoyed Carrabas, if you like Italian
Boston Lobster Feast, for seafood The line was long for the buffet but the food was good.
We had Golden Corral for dinner. It was ok for the price.
Colorado House of Beef had excellent steak and ribs.

From this list, I agree that Carrabbas is great! Better than Olive Garden, IMO. Outback & Red Lobster are both chains & have good food. They are more expensive than Ponderosa, Western Steer, etc., but not really high. You can't beat Cracker Barrel for breakfast. Expect a long wait. I personally don't care for TGIF. On your original list, I would stay away from Golden Corral. JMO :)
