Same day ADRs

Does anyone rely on making ADRs the same day? I have a 4 day solo trip planned in the next couple of weeks and I’m afraid of making ADRs and then wanting to cancel while I’m there. I’ve never been solo before so I’m not sure if food is going to be a priority or not. If I don’t have any ADRs and then decide I’d like to have some table service while I’m there how likely will I be able to snag something day of?

I am the same as above poster. If there is something I really want, I make the ADR. If I think I might want TS, I try for night before or early that morning. This is the first time I only made Topolinos ADR and plan on winging it the rest of the trip

We always make same day ADRs before Covid and I've been solo since (April) and didn't have any problems. It's easy for me because I always have park hoppers so it doesn't matter what park they are in and I don't really care what time I eat. I will be there in early Sept. with my son, his SO and their baby and we haven't made any yet. I keep telling them to let me know if there is somewhere they really want to eat but she has never been so just doesn't know. If you are flexible and like trying new places, you shouldn't have any problems.

I've had decent luck with same-day ADRs - you may not always get the place you've been dreaming of if it's popular, but there's usually something you can sneak into. Covid seems to have mixed things up - ADRs are much harder to get now with staffing shortages and restaurant closures. When I went in July, I booked 2 ADRs about a month in advance, then booked a third on same-day...the 4th night I just did quick-serve.
My next trip is September 24th and I looked this weekend to see if I could get any ADRs - some where available, but none were really convenient to the park I chose for each day, or the times weren't convenient (5pm or 10pm, nothing in between)...so at the moment, I have no ADRs and not really planning on booking any. I figure since this trip is during Food & Wine, I may just park-hop over to Epcot at the end of each evening and pick a few booths to visit for bites and drinks, and not bother with ADRs...or hop over to Disney Springs and see what I can walk into with a moderate wait. I will probably check for any ADRs that fit my schedule each morning before heading out, in case any have opened up for same-day.

I would make some just in case, you can always change your mind! I agree with PP that covid has really thrown off what used to be the norm of places you could get into last minute.

If you aren't picky or trying for hard-to-get places you shouldn't have a problem. We booked quite a few ADRs day-of in May.

Thank you all for your replies. I think since this is my first solo trip and I don’t really know what to expect I’m just going to wing it. Hopefully that strategy will work out for me. Food is just food to me so if I get stuck eating hamburgers and chicken nuggets for 4 days straight it won’t be the end of the world. That is as long as I get to have a gastons cinnamon roll with it! 🤤
