Salvia

Hi all,

I was wondering if anybody has or had Salvia in their flower gardens. I was wondering if these survive the cold winter months?

Depends on the type of salvia. There are many which are hardy in my area, zone 6, and possibly down to 4 or 5. There are also salvias which we treat as annuals in this region. My favorite cold-hardy salvia is 'Carradonna', a dark purple with purple stems.

I have multiple types of salvia in my gardens and containers. I leave them in as perinneals and they do fine over the winter once I trim them back a bit. I'm in zone 9, though.

I have salvia mixed in with my annuals in the ground. I treat them as annuals and am pleasantly surprised when they come back. The potted salvias that I carry over in the garage do come back from the seeds.

Thanks for the responses everyone! My Salvias didn't survive...I guess they aren't built for the cold

don't give up yet. It is very possible that they will be back next sping. Just cut them back and see what happens. I have some Salvias that should not be hardy in my area but they come back every year.
