Salad instead of desert

Just a question or suggestion. After being on the dining plan for a week my DW came up with a question. Why couldn't they offer a choice of a salad or a desert? They are both about the same price.

It seems reasonable and after all salad is the last course in many cultures (here I'm thinking of my Mom's Spanish roots).

Bicker posted a very good reply once outlining the reasons Disney would have for dropping the app's from the DDP but sticking with desserts, maybe we'll get some good input here.

Its not just about price, its also about turn around time. If you have two people at a table and one person orders a salad/appetizer and the other orders a dessert the turn around time for the table is extended, which means less dollars moving through the restaurant on a given night.

If you want a choice or have both, you'll either need to pay OOP or upgrade to the Deluxe Dining Plan. There are rumors of some changes for 2009, but until Disney releases the official information, they are just rumors.

Profit margin can also be different as usually appetizers require more prep time (not so much for salads but fresh vegetables do come with a price).

Because they don't.It doesn't matter that they are the same price.I think part of the "science" behind it was cost, and by just offering dessert they turn tables around alot faster.Instead of a prty of 3 having half order a pre dinner salad and then the other person ordering dessert.Who Knows for sure? it may change for 2009, but I am not holding my breath.

Just in case you didn't know (because I didnt my first time on the DDP) you CAN substitute fresh fruit for your desser!

I think that the OP was suggesting salad as the dessert.

This came up about a week or so ago and Bicker, as well as apocolyptic4life (sp?) had some very good reasons why salad wouldn't work.

One reason that while salads and desserts have about the same price on the menu, the profit margin is much higher on dessert vs salad. Meaning Disney would lower their profit margin by substituting salads.
