Going to CBR in September and I am an avid sailor. I taught for 3 years, and raced a bit. Have mostly Laser, Sunfish, 420, and such experience, but crew experience on large (over 40') yachts as well. I last went to WDW in 96 and stayed at the Contemporary with my family. At the time, they had a Sunfish and a Hobie Catamaran (a 14', I think) and I was able to take the Hobie out - no questions asked, at age 15.

I called the CBR front desk, who transferred me to the marina. They have two Sunfish available for use on the lake at $20 an hour. But she said they only rent to 'experienced' sailors. This makes sense to me, as sailboats are expensive and not intuitively obvious to operate. :sail: I would consider myself experienced, but cannot lay my hands on my instructor certification to 'prove' my qualification (seems to have gotten lost in the shuffle of my last move, and since I don't plan on teaching again, I haven't bothered to replace it.) Is it likely they'd even ask for it?

I'd really like to take advantage of this, and take my BF (pirate: ) - he's never been. :boat: Does anyone have experience with this?

I don't think so, I think they will ask you some general questions about sailing and water safety. My dad has been sailing/racing sailboats for years...very, very experienced sailor and they never asked him for certification. Good luck and have fun.

Thanks a million!

I'm an avid sailor/racer and I just want to mention you might find sailing at the Caribbean Beach Resort a bit borning. The lake is pretty small and the winds not always the best. You might have more fun renting a sailboat over at the GF, POLY or CR. There's much more room for sailing on Bay Lake.

I didn't know you were allowed to do that - rent boats at a resort other than your own! :woohoo: I would be much happier doing that - I've sailed at the Contemporary before. Any idea what kind of boats they offer at the the others?

I would go over to the GF or CR and rent a sailboat there. I love to sail and the views of the castle should be amazing! I think they had hobies/sunfish years ago, not sure what they have now. I'll see if I can find out for you.

Thanks so much! I looked on the Disney website, but I couldn't find anything, maybe I just don't know where to look.
