Sail away party

Out of 7 DCLs we have skipped the Sail Away 3 times. One time we were in the Sport Bar watching a game and the other we were lounging on chairs in the adult area. We could hear what was going on but did not want to be involved in the crowd.

Our first cruise was rainy, so the sail away party was in the atrium. We didn't get to hear the ships horn and it was really crowded! This time, hopefully it'll be outside. I think we'll try to go above the main deck and watch from there if the weather allows! I want to see it outside and hear the horn!

My adult sons and I would skip it and just relax on our verandah but we're traveling with extended family. It's the first Disney cruise for my four year old nephew and 6 year old niece so we want join in on the fun with them.

one of my favorite memories of my last cruise was standing on the promenade deck with my family waving to everyone on shore as we sailed away. We went to the sail away party on our first cruise and will probably skip it from now on.

18 cruises and have never missed it. Just part of the "Disney" experience we love

We get a couple's massage during Sail Away. Embarkation special is 70 minutes for the price of 50. Nice way to start a vacation!

Embarrassed to say that we missed it on our first cruise. We were actually on the deck at the time but lost our good spot to watch it. DD was more interested in watching the ship pull away and waving at people. We couldn't see anyways as it was too crowded and ended up leaving and wandering the ship.

We usually go to the Deck above and watch from there. Not as crowded. Love listening to the music and, best of all, hearing the horn. Then we go to a less crowded area and wave to everyone on shore as we sail by.

This is pretty much what we do as well... :goodvibes

(Hi, Tammy! Hope that you and Rachel are doing well! --Jen)

Did you pre-book that, or did you sign up for it when you got onboard? Thinking of doing a DCL cruise for our 5 year anniversary and want to do the couple's massage. Thanks!

We usually are in the adult area hot tub during sail away....it's AWESOME and EMPTY!! :thumbsup2

Last cruise was on the Magic and it was a little chilly in Feb so we just went to the top deck and waved to people on the shore...that was super fun too!

Embarkation specials are booked on board. Go right up to spa and ask what their specials are. We pre-book Couples Cabana Massage on Castaway Cay. That way we get one on day one and one on last day.

Can you tell me what happens before and after the show and horn? We've watched the Wonder Sail Away videos on YouTube a million times, but besides that, what goes on and how crazy is it? I've read about people racing from the muster drill to the deck for spots. I'm thinking the top deck right next to the railing will be better for my kids (2 are autistic) but then again, they are probably going to want to drag us down on the main deck. They do like to be in the mix of things especially when it's Disney mayhem and dancing. How quick does the top deck fill up? I wonder if I can send DH running up from the muster drill to save us all a spot. My mom can't do stairs, so she'll have to wait for an elevator.

The muster drill is before the deck party. I have a special needs child and they have been very helpful with assisting her during the muster drill. You will be able to use the elevators to go to your station. My suggestion is to go at 3:45 instead of waiting for the required 4pm. You can check in with your party and explain that you may need to leave with your child if it is overstimulating. Depending on how your child does with noises, the alarms and horn may be overwhelming. They do warn you before they blow the horns on deck. It is not was loud inside and cannot be heard on the lower decks inside.
