As I recall............. they blew the horn at the point where they are ready to actually move away from the pier. Same was true for every time we left a port.
They actually blew the horn 4 seperate times when we left Port Canaveral on 10/23. It was really neat. They did it first when we started pulling away, once when we passed a huge group of people, once when we passed Suncruz and last when we were out of the Port. They didn't do it when we left Nassau, though.
Make sure to watch the terminal when you leave! The cast members who checked you in are out on the dock waving at you with Mickey hands! It makes a great picture!
minnieluvzmickey,
Go to deck 10, the side that is facing the terminal. That way you can see everyone waving from the terminal and the park. That is also where the horns are located. They also blow them at noon on sea days.
My parents didn't tell me the first time about the horn, and we were standing right next to it! It wasn't pretty....

Like she said, Deck 10 is the best place. We watched the ship pull away from our verandah, and heard the horn as clear as a bell. We snapped a few nice photos of the Mickey hands, too!
Be prepared because it is very loud. I remember someone posting the horn sound awhile ago. I played it before we left on our cruise. My daughter loved it.
during the sail away party...after Mickey and friends come out to dance with the band...the MC speaks with the captian...then the crowd counts down from ten...when the count hits one...the ships horn sounds.

We got off of the Wonder last week, I remember at the sail away party the captain warned people who were standing near the horn that it will be loud and to cover their ears... it was really cool hearing it for the first time!
