We adopted our dog when he was 8 years old, from a local humane society. I still swear that he is the one who picked our family out when we were at the humane society. It was love at first sight.
He was a "mama's boy" all the way.
He had been having some issues for a couple of months - vet thought it was the "doggie" equivalent of an ACL tear. We actually had an x-ray taken last week, and it was actually bone cancer, and quite advanced at that.
Despite the pain that the vet said he was most likely in, our guy was quite happy to the end.
(photo is a couple of years old, but it has always been one of my favorites!)
We enjoyed him for 4 years, he had just turned 12.
It was definitely the right decision. Doesn't make it any easier, though.
