Safety question ?

Isn't your sister also married to an African American man and has a couple of kids? Do they also refer to themselves as a half and half family? I just hadn't seen the term used and wondered if it was a regional term used in your area of NY.

Since your DH is a K-9 state trooper AND African American, I don't really see how your family would be a target even in the minuscule chance you were in the middle of a BLM protest. I'm pretty sure it's easy to avoid being in a BLM demonstration.

Ever since sandyhook happened we have had these drills in our school. We live in an area that has lots of woods around it so we have the drills to make sure we know what to do. It was trump that said teachers should have guns in the classroom. If I could figure out how to post the link I would post it.

Oh you mean like school drills. Yeah. They do that at my kids school. It's called a stranger drill. They do them here too. No paper on the Windows. Just creepy hide and seek. Tripped the kids out moving from Montana where kids still kept their guns on the gun racks (hunting weapons to my knowledge...not something I viewed) in their cars the school parking lot (per the school rules) and the school doors were unlocked during the day.

I would not feel safe with a gun in my room at all. We have drills where we put paper on the window and shut all the lights off and hide in the corner of the room. I know Obama talked about it after one of the last shootings that happened .

You do this in your home??? Or are you saying this is done in the classroom as a mandated drill by the school district?

Ok, so here's a question and it's not an argument question, it's a genuine question. Say you are in your car with your unloaded gun and you are stopped at a red light. Someone comes up to your window and points a gun at you and wants to carjack you. What's the point of having your gun if it's useless in the situation? You obviously won't have time to get it out of your pocket or holster or wherever and, being responsible, it's not even loaded so why need it?

Clearly, you are no American. The correct answer to that is "because this is "Murica and I can!"

I've never been to Pennsylvania either. I've driven through it, but didn't see anyone carrying rifles along the interstate while I drove.

I live in NJ. Openly brandishing a gun in this area will get you made into human Swiss cheese by the police before you are able to draw breath. Carrying, except under extremely limited circumstances if illegal. I lived in Philadelphia for quite some time. I never saw anyone other than a police officer carrying a gun there, either. Although I know it is, technically, legal, in the areas of Pennsylvania with which I am familiar it isn't done.

I, too, have never touched a real gun.

I'm hell with a super soaker, though.

What school administration created and implemented these drills? I simply can't imagine parents aren't all up in arms about something like this.

I can't even...

I raised three boys, so my super soaker skills are also top notch! :)

It is a district wide drill that we do once a year, along with a tornado drill. Do your kids not have safety drills in school

Yes. I thought it meant in the house. Maybe I shouldn't have had those beers.

I get op meant school

I see where that was explained now. Thank goodness! I was going to have to have even more beer if it was what I thought it was because that would just be crazy!

We don't do the paper over the windows probably cause around these parts we have blinds!!!! But we do have intruder style drills inside the school and also when they are outside and need to come inside in a hurry. I can't remember the exact name it's called but it's coded something else not to frighten the kids.
Sadly it has become a way of life just like fire drills and bus drills. But even in this scary way of life I don't think we can stop living or start carrying guns everywhere. Just be aware and keep living.

Mine are all out of school, but no, they never had drills like what you described. Tornado drill, yes. Papering the windows and hiding, no.

How weird..my daughter for as long as I can remember has had lockdown drills. I don't see a problem with it. It's better that the kids know to do, should the need arise, than have 25 freaked out kids running all over the room.

Strange that this is something that I agree with the OP on lol

In my school we call it code black since we have to sit in the dark for ten min with the lights off.
