Safety question ?

Say what?!

I got nothing else to contribute here. I'm skimming through this thread and caught that.

I live here in "the States" and that's news to me. I can't think of a single one of my kids teachers I'd feel comfortable with a loaded gun and my kid around. No.

I'd imagine any responsible person with a gun in their possession around children would have it unloaded and trigger locked at the very least. I simply can't imagine this "idea" has any merit and was probably written during a creative writing assignment.

I would not feel safe with a gun in my room at all. We have drills where we put paper on the window and shut all the lights off and hide in the corner of the room. I know Obama talked about it after one of the last shootings that happened .

That seems quite drastic. Anxiety can eat away at you until there is nothing left.

Ok, so here's a question and it's not an argument question, it's a genuine question. Say you are in your car with your unloaded gun and you are stopped at a red light. Someone comes up to your window and points a gun at you and wants to carjack you. What's the point of having your gun if it's useless in the situation? You obviously won't have time to get it out of your pocket or holster or wherever and, being responsible, it's not even loaded so why need it?

Wow I was raised around guns since my dad's father owned a hunting store and had gun safety classes for young kids.

I've never hunted and had no exposure to guns at any point in my life. They just aren't important to me. I know they're important to many other people, but I have no personal interest in them at all.

It's the world we live in today

I don't deny that, but you have a choice to make and that's to let it fill your life with doom and dread or enjoy life as much as possible. Time away with your family should be viewed as a happy, relaxing experience. If your anxiety is getting in the way of that, it sounds like you may need to make some changes. I'd start with turning off the news. I'm not saying to bury your head in the sand, but I find TV news to be much more sensationalized than reading an article. I haven't had cable in ten years which means no CNN, FOX or any of those other ridiculous 24/7 stations. Get the facts and move on. Stop watching a continuous loop of someone getting shot. It doesn't help your mindset. This is the way it is in our country at the moment, but I'll be damned if I am going to hide in my house because we have some nut jobs running around out there. I still stand a greater chance of getting in a car accident driving to my vacation than I do being gunned down while on vacation.

This isn't a question I can answer because I simply have no life experience to reflect on. I honestly don't know.

Ok, thank you for that. Maybe someone will come by who can answer without being all rah rah guns. I truly am interested in the answer..

Ever since sandyhook happened we have had these drills in our school. We live in an area that has lots of woods around it so we have the drills to make sure we know what to do. It was trump that said teachers should have guns in the classroom. If I could figure out how to post the link I would post it.

I hope this doesn't involve children. If adults want to do this sort of thing, whatever.
Kids need their parents to be calm, confident and getting on with life. Play ball or Old Maid, take a walk, have an ice cream sundae, talk about what kind of birds are in the backyard. Get busy with living.
