I'll be at the BC and Poly for the week of 12/4-12/11. Are the safes in either of these rooms big enough to hold a laptop? ( yea, i have to take the darn thing). If not, does anyone have any recommendations on how I can secure this very, very expensive piece of cyber tech. Any recs on locks?

Donna

I know the BC in-room safes are not nearly big enough for even the smallest laptop. I've never stayed at the Poly but my guess the in-rooms are no different there. Maybe you can keep leaving it at the front desk?

lots of retail laptop locks can be picked or cut...it only prevents it from grab and run thieves.
call your resort to see if they have a front desk safe or place for laptops. I sort of doubt it as it's Disney and not some 5star hotel... never know. might be a liability issue for them to keep it at front desk?

I've never locked mine up. Aren't they insured? I seem to recall that they are covered out of the house, unless they're in a stolen car, in which case the car insurance covers. But I'm not positive. I'm going to call my agent tomorrow.

In any event, the safes won't hold it. And why leave it at the desk? Couldn't they steal it as well?

The safes in the newly refurbished rooms at the Polynesian easily hold a laptop. Actually, they almost seemed designed for that purpose. The rooms that don't have the newest decor still have a good size safe. I've read of people fitting laptops in those at an angle.

BTW, you can certainly count on WDW front desks to hold valuables for you. They even encourage you to do so rather than risk theft in the rooms.

Keep in mind that insurance has a deductible unless you have it on a no deductible floater. Why take a chance? I have a cable lock for mine.

Never thought of that. Guess I've been living on the wild side without knowing it!

This is a good excuse to not bring it along.

I've taken my laptop on almost every visit to WDW since I first got one in 1996. I seldom have locked it up. Usually I tuck it away in plain site, under the bed or behind the sofa in a DVC villa.

Most of the safes can't hold one, I've had a few that did, unfortunately I can't recall where, but am sure not at the BC.

YOu have a couple other options, locked into a suitcase is one good idea, checked at the front desk is another, although it's inconvenient.

The in room safe at the Gaylord Palms is big enough for a laptop and even has an electrical outlet so you can charge your unit while it's locked up.
