Safe fries anywhere anymore?

I realize allergy safe is different from person to person but I'm wondering if anyone is aware of any location I can find soy/dairy/grain free fries anymore? Our trips 2 and 3 years ago we had no trouble finding locations that had fries that were just potato cooked in a dedicated fryer w/canola oil and salt. Perfect for us. Last trip they were almost all soy contaminated (purchased that way precooked in soy oil) or had some mix of coating on them with various ingredients that weren't safe.

Just wondering if anyone more recently has had any luck finding the more simple version again with just potatoes and seasoning cooked in non-soy oil.

I did email Special Diets last time but their response was pretty much to tell me I had to talk to the chef/manager upon arrival at each restaurant. Only place that was able to make them was Raglan Road.

TIA!

My son has dairy and egg allergy, and they had to cook his fries separate at the QS place at the Poly a few years ago.

I don't know about soy - sorry! I would think TS places may be best but also there are many other options for sides?

Thanks. We had no trouble at all a few years ago and then they changed things. Was hoping maybe they've changed back or I missed someplace.

My twins are entirely grain free leaving potato as their only safe carb so they eat it in some form with every lunch and dinner. It's just fun to be able to have it as fries sometimes or for an easy snack on the go as most snacks are not safe for one reason or another.

Definitely ask any time you order - I'm sure you do! My son's allergy used to be worse, but Disney was the one place he could eat well safely!
Good luck and have a good time!

PS: Our first trip all four of us, we did a villa at the Boardwalk Villas - had a full kitchen. It was so awesome. We drove so I brought a cooler with safe foods. Then we found out how awesome Disney was with his allergies. He never had any reactions in all our trips there. Can't say the same for Universal.

Email special diets and ask for the soy list to start. As for the oil used, I would think that changes from time to time so you would need to ask each time. They should be able to pan fry at TS if they have fries too to be sure the oil is safe.

I have about 30 food allergies including gluten/dairy/egg/soy. We stayed at Caribbean Beach and the head chef in the food court made me fresh fries everyday. It took about 30 minutes each time but he sliced potatoes, and used a separate fryer with safe oil. They were absolutely amazing! We were there 5 days and I'm surprised I didn't gain 10lbs just from fries. I was also able to get safe fresh made fries at Chef Mickeys brunch, the Grand Floridian Cafe, Crystal Palace lunch. Basically, any place that had fresh potatoes offered to make me fries.

That is really great to hear because after a stay at CBR last spring I'm pretty sure this is going to be our go-to resort when we travel with the whole family from now on. We didn't eat much at the resort because we were typically in the park around mealtimes but another chef specifically told me to ask for his friend who he said was the head chef at CBR and assured me I would be taken care of. By that point though our trip was almost over. Very glad to hear they did that for you.

I don't have an answer for you when it comes to your question, but I know how you feel. I don't have an allergy, but I do have a medical condition that is very food sensitive and soy is a HUGE trigger for me. Now luckily soy oil doesn't seem to cause me problems as it is in so much stuff, but it's hard enough to find foods that are "safe". Soy just seems to be in everything!

I wish I could remember the name of the chef. He was new, and it was his first time running a resort food court (he had been in charge of TS restaurants in the past). We did have some issues the first night but not with him. The chef who came out to help me was not good. Just multiple things that he did/did not do that were definitely not allergy compliant (including letting food touch the counter when he brought it out of the kitchen and no cover on the food, etc. the next day we were able to talk to the head of the food court and he was more than happy to listen to what I was concerned about and my suggestions based on other food courts at Disney and after that, the service from him AND the other chefs was amazing. I had also had a very severe anaphylactic reaction about 2 weeks before we left on vacation and was back in the ER the night before we drove to disney from west palm beach so I was a little more on edge and more cautious than usual and he was so great about it.

Also....I always take index cards with my name, allergy list, and usually room number and give them to the chefs/managers. This chef was so happy to see that. He kept the card in back on his desk and he sent an email (and kept a copy of it with the card) about what he offered to make (just in case he wasn't there at the time) and specific requests (like namaste pancake mix only...no bobs red mill), etc. The service was just so above and beyond. So if you go back to CBR and have any problems, make sure to ask for the head chef and if he is still there, I think your kids will be absolutely fine and hopefully some very good food!

That's great. I'm glad you had such a good experience. I will say that a couple chefs from CBR did call me after I submitted my Allergy/Dietary Request form to Special Diets. I'd never had any resort call me before and I submit one every trip. They left a message asking me to let them know anything they can do to help, but my kids never did eat at the food court. I did however go a few times for myself for gluten free waffles and treats and they were very nice every time they came out to help me.

Not sure if this applies to you for just gluten free waffles, but are you able to have Bobs Red Mill products or just the namaste mix they have? I can't have Bobs Red Mill because of tree nut contamination and they were able to make pancakes with just the namaste but I was not able to get Mickey waffles at the food court because they use the same waffle maker for just Namaste mix as they use for their Bobs/Namaste combination mix so the chef was not comfortable with doing the waffles for me because of the risk of possible CC. I was a little disappointed t first but they made me Mickey shaped pancakes instead (and gave me like 8 at a time!) and I was able to binge on Mickey waffles at brunch at Chef Mickeys.

Of course, if you can have bobs red mill, disregard that information. Just wanted to share what happened because I know that allergy safe Mickey waffles are a huge treat for most people with allergies and I didn't want you to be disappointed if you get there thinking the waffles are possible but they end up not being available.
