The only thing we want to do at AK is the Safari.....we can't book FP+ for it because I'm not blowing 3 FPs at AK when we only want ONE.

So....can anyone give guidance on what we can expect if we arrive at AK 20 minutes before the park opens and head directly to the Safari on a touring plan '4' day? We have a 2yo with us so any longer than 30 minute wait would be a nightmare.

Depending on your pace, I would expect that you would be one of the first vehicles out. In my experience, there are generally fewer people at AK before RD than the other parks, and I'd estimate at least half head for Everest. On a '4' day, I can't imagine you would be waiting anywhere near 30 minutes.

We didn't even arrive on time when we did it, we arrived at the AK tapstiles around 15-20 minutes after opening. We walked (but not quickly, stopped for some pictures) back to the Safari first. It was a walk on, it had a posted time but the only wait was right at the vehicle. It was a recommended (but not most recommended) day on a 4 or 5 crowd level, but it was cool and rainy.

At that time it will take you longer to walk through the queue, park your stroller, and get to the front than the wait all together.

We will be going on a resort-wide "9" day but with AK being the most recommended park. We have the same plan as the OP - no FP+ for it but plan to do it first thing. What do you think?

We've done rope drop in August and walked straight on the safari, had no problem, like previous poster said a lot of people were heading for Everest so we literally walked through the queue and having just missed a vehicle got on the next one,5 mins max :)

I'd get there well before park opening. The two most popular rides are EE and KS. A crowd level "9" means tons of people, so you want to be toward the front of the line when the parks open.

How is the line for EE if we did Safari first right at rope drop and then went strait to EE?

Same issue here, do not want to waste 2 fp for AK when all I want is one. I wish they could lets us split fp for different parks.

We went on a 9 crowd day on July 4 weekend. We waited at the rope inside the park for about 7 minutes walked back to Safari and walked on.

keep in mind that AK typically opens 15 minutes before the posted time. We've been there early but not terribly early - first or 2nd at the turnstiles - walked really fast and been first on the safari!

That however was in January not on a crowd level (gasp!) 9 day. If you get there early and can walk fast (and know where you are going) you will not have a long wait!

We went this past Monday, April 21st, Easter Monday with the same plan, we did not want to waste fast passes at AK. It opened at 8:00, we got there about 8:20am, stopped to get a locker and coffee as we were walking to the safari. We pretty much walked right on, maybe had to wait for 1 car ahead of us, then walked over to EE and then pretty much walked right on 3 times in a row. I think our day was rated a 5 or 6 on touring plans.
