We will be home the week leading up to Easter....crazy I know! If we want to try Kilamanjaro Safari in the dark will we need a FP? Or should I keep my morning time and then just do it again stand by at night?? Thoughts? Thanks!!

When is sunset and what are current AK hours on your day in question?

No, you shouldn't need a FP+. Typically, by 8:30pm or so, there is no line for Safari. Several times we've literally walked right on it...the CMs were just waiting for people to show up and get on the buses...once there was only one other family on the bus with us.

But be prepared that in the dark, it's hard to see animals. There's some lighting, but not a ton. Still worth it if you've got the time.

If you can time it right-twilight/sunset safari can be great (as long as not raining). We miss timed it last trip a bit (nearly full dark) but many animals are active-heard the male lion wake up and roar several times-a first on multiple safaris!

Sunset is at 7:41pm
Park hours 8-10

So I did the night safari yesterday, although sunset and park hours aren't exactly apples to apples with your case, so this probably doesn't help much.

Park closed at 8:30PM. We had Safari FPs for 7-8. Got on the ride sometime just after 7, which this time of year is pretty dark/late twilight. We didn't need the FPs - it was a total walk on.

Again, apples to oranges for your dates, but just FWIW.

Also, I had done the nighttime safari awhile back when it first started and was sort of lukewarm on the concept. Last night it seemed like there were a lot more lights than I remember and there were a lot more animals out. It was actually a pretty good safari... which wasn't the case on our prior nighttime one. The best part was the male lion roaring.... that was actually pretty incredible to see/hear. I've only ever seen him sleeping! :rotfl:

I agree that you will not see a lot.

But I did see all 3 lions when I did it a week ago. Only time I’ve seen more than one.

I would suggest doing it at dusk, not nighttime. Not sure if you need a FP. We had one when we did it. Can you try to get an additional one (4th, 5th, etc) for it?
