Safari Changes?

See, I thought they played it pretty serious, which I wouldn't have a problem with if they did a better job of it. I never saw the original version, but my understanding is it was a little heavier, and didn't have the "mega happy" ending. But there were complaints and misunderstandings or something, so they toned it down.

I'm sure somebody remembers the details better.

It sort of became kitsch to us, but that's not good when its not intended. With the Jungle Cruise, that's the intent and it works pretty well, IF you have a good skipper. We had one that actually tried to play it pretty serious, didn't tell many jokes, etc, and while he was trying, it didn't work well at all.

The only time the Kilaminjaro is fun for me is when you can tell that the drivers are actually having fun. Obviously it is hard for them to have fun when the see the same lion God only knows how many times in one day but.... For some reason they actually get excited about some stuff which makes the experience SO much better.

in the current version big red is only shot, and you never hear anything else of it. in the old version big red is killed and very early on you actualy got to see the body of big red.

well it also added a sence of excitment to it. i fear that it will just become another safari ride like they have at bush gardens. and won't tell a story anymore.

Notice the space that you drive through in order to fulfill this story. From what I understand, they are not just simply removing it. I would wait and see if they inject a different story...probably something to do with Pixar!!

As the parent of two little kids, I was actually quite pleased when the gunshot sound didn't work on my last trip. I thought it was rather silly for adults and potentially scary for little kids when the safari ride would otherwise be very enjoyable for them. They will presumably enjoy the new version of the ride much more.

It's the same thing with Imagination at Epcot (which is horrible relative to what it once was). While my then 2-year old enjoyed it for the first half, all he remembered afterwards was the skunk smell that got blasted on everyone and then the loud shot at the end ("I don't like the shot" is what he said whenever anyone asked about the ride instead of commenting on Figment). I had no idea why those were added to an attraction that now only has value to young children.

Hey maybe we'll get to pick up that Boo kid

I would also like to point out that Journey into Imagination via 1985 had some prety scary parts, and i loved it. I guess i just liked being scared. I guess they made kids tougher back them. In my oppinion people shelter their children to much these days.

Whoa, there's a post I wouldn't want to have on this site.

Disney used to be full of terror and 'real' information. (Wonderful World of Disney, Sunday nights back in the 70's, used to scare the bejeebes out of me sometimes...it also showed parents that were killed, children that were treated badly and tarbabies) All of which inspired me to be the huge environmentalist and the Artist that I am today...

Now we let 8yo's watch R rated movies, they become desensitized to murder and language by their early teens and we use metal detectors in our schools.

Personally I'd rather scare the bejeebes out of them with some reality in a controlled situation, impressing the wonderful truth that one person, maybe even that child , could make a huge difference in this world...all they have to do is THINK (a lost commodity in America it seems), and Do Good.

All just my opinion of course...do with it what you will.

The early Disney "scary stuff" dealt with fears that every child has - the loss of a parent (Snow White), learning to be different from everyone else (Dumbo), new family situations (Cinderella), and just the plain old difficult effort of growing up (Bambi).

That's why those movies are classics - they talk to every child from every background becuase all childern have those fears.

But a lot of today's "scary stuff" deals with adult issues that children can't relate to. Televison and pop culture generally shows violence as the solution to "grown-up" issues like sex, power, money. In fact a lot of culture now glorifies violence (physical, mental, group) as the best and easiest ways to gain all of those goodies. And that’s are what children are learning today – they may not understand the issue of “respect”, but they get the message that a gun in your hand makes people act differently to you.

I don't know. Nemo followed those old themes- getting seperated from your parent.

Weren't we talking about Children experiencing "R" rated movies?

That'll be nice since the audio was getting sketchy and I don't I have ever heard any guests ever respond to the storyline.
