Safari 4/Computer vent

Yea, I know this is a computer-type post (but it doesn't belong in Tech Support) and kind of off-topic, but I need to vent.

Does ANYBODY here LOVE Safari 4?!? Ever since I downloaded the New!Improved!Latest! version it crashes at least once a day. I have spent much of the past couple of days on Apple.Com's Safari for Mac forums and it STILL is crashing. I never had any issues with the previous versions, I HATE this! I don't care WHY (suddenly)my shiny toy(less than one year old!), my beloved iMac isn't working. I JUST WANT IT TO WORK. I don't care that if it is supposedly whiz-bang fast and has all sorts of cool apps. If it doesn't work, all that stuff is useless. It's like someone coming up to you and saying "Hey, here's a nice shiny sports car" and you say "Wow, I can hardly wait to drive it" and every time you get in to drive the thing it conks out a block from your home.

So now I have an appointment at the closest Apple Store's Genius Bar, but it's not until Friday. Ugh. And it's always *so* much fun to unplug the iMac and lug the thing into that store.

If I wanted problems I would have gotten a PC with Vista .

I feel your pain. I had my first 'crash' yesterday for the first time EVER on my Mac. I didn't realize it was from Safari.

I hope your toy gets fixed soon!

I am taking your post as a warning NOT to get the "New and Improved" version. I got a mac precisely because I was sick of my pc crashing.

I'm not having any problems here. I usually use firefox or Camino.

Oh no! I just installed the update this morning. I really hope I do not encounter problems too. My Mac mini is over a year old, so unless I pay for it, I don't think I qualify for any support.

It's not your computer giving you problems, it's your browser.

Download firefox, or camino, or any of the other great browsers out there. I don't like Safari. Firefox has lots of great add-ons and extensions.

Mine has been ok. One weird crash yesterday but I've been on 4 for a while.

it's iPhoto that has been crashing on me. Beach ball of death constantly! There was a patch yesterday and I found some 'fixes' in the support forums so hopefully that has stopped!

Our Safari has crashed a few times since installing the last update as well. Not the machine, just Safari. Still annoying. Might try Firefox or Chrome or something instead.

Welcome to Mac computers. Hide all possible crashes and problems from the public but say they work perfectly everytime.

I upgraded last weekend...HATE IT!!!!!!!!!!!! First, the "voice over" guy started speaking everything I typed. I figured out how to turn him off, but now, my keyboard is on the fritz! I can type (at work now), but my arrow, tab, spacebar and delete button don't work.

I called Apple and the tech told me to manually override the keyboard...yeah...still not working! I'm about to re-install the original software from the cd.

You know, my boyfriend and I both have MacBooks. His Safari keeps crashing but mine is working fine! I haven't downloaded the new version and now I'm wondering if he did and that's why it's messing up.

Well, at least now I know not to upgrade.

Just go over to the Apple.Com "Safari for Mac" forum and take a look around before you download, I sure wish I had. The standard line that people like to recite is "11 MILLION downloads in the first few days!" Well, how many of those people just blithely downloaded the software ASSUMING that there wouldn't be much of a difference between Safari 4 Beta and the Safari 4.0.1? Some people have apparently had no problems with this latest Safari, I am not one of them and I have a lot of company. My issue is that I have a fairly new iMac and am almost *exclusively* running Apple software that came with it and have kept up with all updates...so WHY isn't it just working? I would assume all their systems would be integrated? Hahahahahahahaha

Now, I'll have to walk away from the keyboard for a while. My DD is going to have to back-up everything, in case the memory gets wiped when the Apple Store does the re-install...

Oh, and I'm taking copies of the last few System Reports in with me so they can maybe see what's been happening. I'm concerned if I don't do that the Safari 4 won't act up while I'm there (since the problems aren't constant but instead are "intermittent").
