I did. Anything else in your previous closet that you care to admit to wearing? I had a poodle skirt in first grade. The boy next to me pulled all of the whiskers out of the poodle's nose in class. I went home crying.
Saddle Shoes....oh my gosh, I haven't thought of those in so long! That was all I wore when I was little. My mom LOVED them and I HATED them, no one else I knew wore them. This was the early 80s...NO ONE else wore Saddle Shoes! I'd like to say making me wear those scared me for life, but, since I'd forgotten all about it, I guess that won't fly!
I had to SLEEP in saddle shoes! My hips were messed up from a birth defect, so for about 5 years as a kid I had to wear Forrest Gump-ish leg braces (only mine were flexible) attached to saddle shoes.
As a kid, I never, ever wanted to be a cheerleader because they wore saddle shoes. By the time I reached HS, cheerleaders were wearing athletic shoes, but I chose the dance team anyway - yanno because white go-go boots were so very cool in the late 80's.

I had to wear them in elementary school--corrective shoes. I didn't have the leg braces but had to wear the corrective shoes for extreme pigeon-toedness . I HATED them. I remember having a fit in the orthopedic dr's office because I wanted to wear something other then 'baby' shoes as the kids in school called them.
My dad thought those were the only "proper" shoes and wouldn't let me get anything else. We always went to Stride Rite. One year, 1st grade or so, I rebelled and wouldn't let them touch my feet until I could try on some pretty shoes.
I wore them for cheerleading when I was in grammar school.
In high school, they were the "summer uniform" shoes. We wore them with bobby socks. I actually prefered that to panty hose and old lady looking shoes for our winter uniform. (this was in the early 80's)
I was in the shoe store getting DD#2 her uniform shoes and a girl was being fitted for shoes next to us. She was attending the high school I went to. Guess what shoes came out for her to try on??? Saddle shoes!!! Some things never change.
BTW... I don't like the saddle shoes with the red soles. Only white soles for me.
Not only did I wear saddle shoes in grade school, I had a pair of red and white ones in high school. They were the in thing in the early 70's. I would love to get them for my grandson. He is 2 and I alays put my DS in them with his little short outfits when he got dressed up as a toddler. DS wonders how he survived childhood with me as a mother.
I sure did! I loved those shoes! One kid made fun of them and called them bowling shoes. (It was the 70's). I told him that he was so wrong and they were saddle shoes so there!
Sure did. I am 55 and I have wide feet. At the time when I was in grade school that and brown girl scout shoes were all that fit right. Mine were the "hard" kind. When everyone else had them they were softer and much cuter. The cute ones were called be-bops. Have no desire to ever were them again!
I had jelly shoes, too! I remember wearing some to the lake as a kid and one fell off as I dangled my feet off the dock. Little minnows were swarming around it and I made my aunt go in to get it...I was afraid of the big bad fish!! Did I mention I'm more of a "city" kind of girl?????

another Catholic schooler here....we had to wear them through grade 8.....I did love my saddle shoes....I even liked polishing them every Friday! What a little Dork!!!
