I was able to get my cat into see the vet earlier than the scheduled 5 o clock appointment. Madge took a turn for the worse last night. It was determined that she was bleeding internally and though the specific cause was not clear, I was left with the only decision which was to put her out of her pain. I said good bye to my furbaby today and have just heaved great sobs. The childrena are devastated as well. I can't even wrap my head around this right now. Thanks to those who sent their prayers our way I really do appreciate it even if the answer was that I needed to end her suffering. She was a precious kitty and though she was only 3, she brought us much love in that short time. I miss her so much already.
This seems like the board on the Dis where those with furbabies get the most support so I am coming (again) for good thoughts and prayers this time for my cat.
The background: We got back on the 23rd from our trip to WDW to find that three of my four cats had gotten out. The pet sitter (not the usual on that I use- reasanos for that which I won't go into) a friend of ours had mentioned that the cats weren't eating much but I wasn't too concerned thinking that given the large bowls I had left for him to fill it would appear that not much was being eaten anyway. He had said that one cat had gotten out which wasn't a surprise he is the only one allowed out mostly because he is a grumpy and somewhat nasty old man if he doesn't get out occassionally. He always comes back in and in the past would come in for our pet sitter. Well he was out nearly three weeks and the friend/pet sitter put food and water out for him. Anyway like I said we got home to find like I said 3 of the 4 outside. After frantic somewhat hysterical calling at 10PM the neighbors up the street came down with our female - Madge . She had been hiding under their vehicle. She is severely malnourished and literally skin and bones. I called the vet the next morning and I was told that they had no openings and were going on vacation I could take an appointment at 5PM on the 31st though. I was told if she was eating a nd drinking she should be fine. I got her to eat and drink and she has been continuing to do that and has used the litter box but mostly she has slept on my bed. She seems more alert when we check on her every hour or so and has shown interest in the other cats who have come in to see her. She has even gotten up and sat on our laps when we come to visit her. On the other hand, I have now noticed that she has a sore in her mouth. I can't see it too well but there has been small amounts of blood on the cloth she is sleeping on. I called the other area vet who guess what is on vacation as well can't get in there either. So I am pretty much monitoring her and making sure she eats and drinks every couple to three hours even through out the night. Thankfully she has been doing this and has been eating canned food well and drinking well. So as it is now, I can't get her medical attention until Tuesday. I would really really appreciate any prayers and pixie dust you can send her way. I am beside myself with this so worried about her. Some of you may remember that I had to say good bye to my dear dog earlier this summer so this is really frightening me.
On the positive side all our cats are in and all are doing well except of course Madge who needs the prayers. I can't even believe that my pet sitting went so terribly wrong.
Also if there are any animal care professionals that can give me some good advice that can hold us over until Tues I would appreciate it.
Thanks All
