We have gone to WDW for the past two years, DL about 3 or 4 times during that time period as well, and I think we need a break. We are going to Mexico NEXT WEEKEND, and I am a little nervous.
I'm nervous about my kids getting sick and all the horrible things you hear in the news. I miss the comfort of the parks, of only worrying about what your next ride is, or what restaurant you will eat at. But, my kids need to see the REAL world. Eventually, we all need to venture out.
Plus, Disney is best when you really, really crave it and simply can't wait another day!
I've only been to WDW once, years ago, but because I live on the West Coast, Disneyland too many times to count. While I would love to go to WDW again, it's not in the budget, besides I feel there are too many other places in the country I've never been to. I've done road trips to Virginia and Washington D.C. with a 6-year old and 2 teens. Also Chicago with a 7-year old. Lots of awesome museums and Navy Pier. National parks galore, Wisconsin Dells, Boston and Cape Cod. San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego. I drove the Oregon Coast with a 10 year old and he loved it.
Ok we did Disney 2 years in a row and had an amazing time on both trips. I want to plan another trip somewhere. I just don't think we should only expose Disney WOrld to the kids when there are so many other amazing places to go in the World. Problem is, I can't think of anything that would come close to the wonderful trips we had a WDW.
Anyone have any thoughts? btw, my kids are 4 and 5. Thanks.
We took our dd skiing in Whistler, BC Nov. 08 and she loved it. She still talks about it and can't wait to go back. We're planning on spending Christmas skiing next year.
Disney cruise! We did WDW every year for years and it got to the point where I felt like it was time to "expand our horizons" (no pun intended). So we're doing 2 Disney cruises this year....the EBTA and the Mediterranean. What I love about cruising is that we can see the world but still have a "safe" kid environment where people speak our language and the kids can have the foods they want. My kids are super picky eaters and I can only imagine trying to track down chicken nuggets in Europe With cruising we get the best of both worlds---we're mobile, we have childcare if we need it, and the kids have all the comforts of home.
I agree that kids need to go other places than Disney. However, I also try to keep in mind that there are only so many years that children will accept the fantasy and "magic" that comes with WDW!! My oldest is almost 8 and I know she is (and has been) questioning. She is old enough to realize that Cinderella looks different from one day to the next. But, she knows that it is more fun to believe! She will still dress up in a Cinderella costume while there - she would rather stick her head in the mud than to do that at home!
My point - yes, kids need to see other things but don't feel guilty about letting them grasp the magic while they can!!!
We take a vacation every year and our two most memorable trips have been Vail, CO and Germany.
We went to Vail in the off season- there is a lot to do in the summer, the weather is fantastic, and because it wasn't ski season it was really reasonably priced.
Germany was amazing and while we were there we saw Cinderella's castle- along with several other castles! We went for a wedding and even though the kids were young and it was several years ago they still talk about it.
