I don't want to steal December99's chance to post herself, but I think this post might be a little easier for me to make right now. Our dear cat, Butter, died this morning. He had been struggling since we took him to the vet to have his teeth cleaned the day after Christmas. There were some complications with him recovering from being put under, and they had punctured his trachea when they put in the breathing tube to put him under (apparently not uncommon, and something that can heal without ill effects, but it puts air into the body cavity). We were able to bring him home on December 30, took him back to the vet last Friday night because he still was not eating well and was lethargic (he usually liked to play with me a little after I would pet him, and he didn't do that a single time since we brought him home from the vet). He perked up for a day or two, but starting Sunday he was again lethargic and not eating. We all went down at various times to see him this morning, and he just was not himself and was just laying around. Chris took him into the vet again this morning and the vet called within two hours to let her know that he had died while being treated.
I have only lived with Butter for a little over four years, but he was a real sweetheart of a cat who I grew to love very much. Chris and Britt had had Butter for at least 9 years, and he was the apple of Brittany's eye. I am sitting here bawling my eyes out knowing that the poor kid will have to deal with another major loss. She is a very resilient kid, but she has had more to deal with than is possibly fair this past year or so. It saddens me beyond belief. I am so glad that Butter came into my life and taught me how wonderful the love of a pet can be. We'll miss him very much. Please keep Brittany in your prayers. She is lucky to have the most wonderful mother a girl could ever ask for, but I know this will be tough for both of them. Thanks.
