Here is my take on the situation.
Over the past few years, Pleasure Island has gotten out of control. Too many drunks, too many "organized youth groups" (gangs). Disney took away the gates to make the transition from the West Side to the Marketplace a smoother one. By taking away the gates, they literally let anyone in. Parents were dropping off the kids and the kids were spending the night with nothing to do but get in trouble. Over the years it became very Un Disney. They also cut back on the entertainment, no more midnight fireworks, no more dancers, no more west end stage. It was basically a bar room scene right smack in the middle of a very upscale dining/entertainment complex. It seems Disney has decided to go more in the direction of the Anaheim Downtown Disney, more upscale eateries, shops, and family friendly entertainment. While change like this is always a shock, you have to look at the big picture. Is the current PI the image that Disney wants? Probably not. Will the new concept fit in better with a family friendly place to visit at night? Hopefully so. Not to say places like the AC and CW and even 8-Trax wont be missed, they will! But the overall experience will be much nicer once completed.
One thing I can tell you about Disney...
Once they make up their mind, there is no stopping them! Petitions wont help. They most likely have already leased every building out to outside companies. They don't just close things without future plans in the works.
Yes the news came as a shock! And yes in a way it is sad. But things change, and we will have to get used to the changes. Look at Mr. Toad. They took an attraction that you could literally walk on, and turned it into an attraction that has an hour wait every day! Disney doesn't make changes without doing tons of studying, surveying, and thinking about the big picture.
In the long run, I think this move will be better for the Downtown Disney area as a whole....
And just think! Rob will literally be the last guy to be in the Adventures Club! I know he is sad about this, but that is something he will be able to brag about in the years to come!
