Sad news.......PI closing forever 09/27/08!

Rob -- I am so sorry; it's hard when a place you love closes. I know how sad I felt when a restaurant that was where my husband and I had our first real date, closed and was torn-down.

Sadly, I'm afraid it's not a "in case it does close" it's a "before it closes".

We spoke to the cast members and performers at the club last night. It's a done deal. They've already started talking to the performers about other positions that they might be able to fill within entertainment.

I hate this.

I haven't slept. My stomach has been in knots since last night. We won't be able to talk to our wedding planner until Monday at the earliest.

My heart hurts.

Rob, I am sorry!
I do hope we'll have a chance to meet you and Scott, and if we can meet at AC then even better!

Just found out about AC myself. I'm signature #152 on the petition posted by ConcKahuna. We will definitely get there in August.

Considering I posted it right after I signed this morning and I was siggy # 47, it's doing well so far.

The changes may already be slated, but then again they took Figment out of the Image ride then added him back in after backlash. Maybe we can get the AC moved instead of lost :(

I am #179. :)

Rob, it must be bittersweet for you. I hope you don't allow it to cast a pall on your wedding, though!

The hotel where we got married changed ownership the week of my wedding. :scared1: First our wedding coordinator bailed, but she never said WHY. I didn't really care for the new girl, but I was dealing with it. Then we were notified like 3 days beforehand that the hotel was going from Crowne Plaze to Radisson! They stripped every bit of signage overnight - our guests had no prayer of figuring out that it USED to be a Crowne Plaza! And of course there was no end to the hotel passing the blame. They didn't KNOW the hotel was changing. Well, SOMEBODY knew because they replaced all the freaking signs! :furious: We had a bunch of problems, which I outlined in a 3 page letter to the GM of the hotel. He gave us some gift certificates, which the hotel then refused to honor when I tried to redeem them because that GM wasn't there anymore. I was only 22 so I wasn't as mean as I am now. If a business pulled that on me now they would be very, very sorry. ;)

The thing is, we are still married 16 years later. I think it is a rule that all weddings have to have some nightmarish component. But you and Scott have each other. You have your family and friends. With those things you can manage the other things that come your way, even if those things are sad!

Here is my take on the situation.

Over the past few years, Pleasure Island has gotten out of control. Too many drunks, too many "organized youth groups" (gangs). Disney took away the gates to make the transition from the West Side to the Marketplace a smoother one. By taking away the gates, they literally let anyone in. Parents were dropping off the kids and the kids were spending the night with nothing to do but get in trouble. Over the years it became very Un Disney. They also cut back on the entertainment, no more midnight fireworks, no more dancers, no more west end stage. It was basically a bar room scene right smack in the middle of a very upscale dining/entertainment complex. It seems Disney has decided to go more in the direction of the Anaheim Downtown Disney, more upscale eateries, shops, and family friendly entertainment. While change like this is always a shock, you have to look at the big picture. Is the current PI the image that Disney wants? Probably not. Will the new concept fit in better with a family friendly place to visit at night? Hopefully so. Not to say places like the AC and CW and even 8-Trax wont be missed, they will! But the overall experience will be much nicer once completed.

One thing I can tell you about Disney...

Once they make up their mind, there is no stopping them! Petitions wont help. They most likely have already leased every building out to outside companies. They don't just close things without future plans in the works.

Yes the news came as a shock! And yes in a way it is sad. But things change, and we will have to get used to the changes. Look at Mr. Toad. They took an attraction that you could literally walk on, and turned it into an attraction that has an hour wait every day! Disney doesn't make changes without doing tons of studying, surveying, and thinking about the big picture.

In the long run, I think this move will be better for the Downtown Disney area as a whole....

And just think! Rob will literally be the last guy to be in the Adventures Club! I know he is sad about this, but that is something he will be able to brag about in the years to come!

I totally agree! Who else could close the AC? No one!

WOAH! Woah! Woah...............woah......

I can't believe this. I have reservations in October. I've never been to any of the clubs. :worried: That's no fair.

My boyfriend and I were big fans of 8Trax. We're bummed!:sad1: Like what we really need are more shops & restaurants! We're gonna need ideas on what to do (besides eat & shop!) when the parks close early and we're wired to party! Hang in the lounges? We could do that in Jersey!

wow...the petition is really hopping! im signature 1077, altho i agree that i dont really think it will help :(

I'm clearly the minority (here) but I won't miss PI at all. DP and I checked out the AC after the raves we had read on here, but we weren't enthralled. :confused3 Something for everyone, and all. We pretty much decided to never go to PI again. Maybe we'll check it out after the transition.

bingo!

Totally bummed out! I planned my trip a year in advance (OKW for January 2009) with the idea that I could take the boat over to PI. I love AC and the CW, and now my trip is in jeopardy over where else to stay. Not enough points for Boardwalk. Oh darn!!!!!!!!

Stick with OKW. I'm just a touch biased of course, but it beats BWV hands down! LOL! :goodvibes

#2417 on the list..

Jeez Louise!

Is anyone going down for the 'Goodbye' ?
