Sorry to spread sadness, but after being member since 2002 and posting 200 times… I have been locked out of posting in rent/trade forum by this rule:
"50 non-Rent/Trade board posts distributed evenly over the past 6 months as verified by the DIS search engine."

Guess if I had no relevant post to make… I should be saying "Happy Monday" and "Happier Friday!". In a 6 month time frame x 4weeks a month x twice a week that would give me 48 post… still 2 shy.

Doesn't make sense to me. Hope someone can help me.

Happy Thursday! :confused3

I would say that you would be better off sending a private message to the moderator(s) of the Rent/Trade board to ask how you can make sure you have access there. They will be able to give you good suggestions.

Their board, their rules. I had a similar experience, owner since 98, board member since there were less than a thousand. They changed servers and it reset everyone to the new date, so my profile join date is wrong. And yes, my posting has become more active to comply with the rule.
It is interesting how the boards have changed over the years but that's another discussion about negativity of people and the arrogance of their views.

You are not locked out. You just have to pay a fee to use the Rent/Trade Board to find someone to use your points or reservation. The fee is waived for active members of the community.

What is wrong with rewarding (albeit in a small way) those who use their time and expertise to keep the DISboards interesting and relevant?

The posting requirement also allows non-members to get a feel for the owner who is offering the points for rent. We encourage prospective renters to read the owner's DIS posts as part of their "due diligence".

I'm sorry you had to cancel your reservation. Hope something works out for you.

P.S. We mods do not count "Happy Monday" posts or other posts that don't add at least some value to the discussion

Yes, they made changes on that board a few years ago in order to help protect both the DVC point renters and those that rent. I have been a DVC member since 1996 and a DIS member for more than 10 yrs. I read the boards frequently, but don't always meet the posting requirements when I am ready to rent out points. I happily pay the rental membership fee when needed. Its a small price to pay and hopefully contributes to the running of this fantastic forum!

That's why you should answer questions with 42 instead of meaningless banter like "Happy Friday!"
(Because 42 is the ultimate answer to life, the universe, and everything ;)

I'm sorry but I agree with the original poster. I have been a member and renter for years on these boards. Life gets in the way though and trying to have required amount of active posts does not make me a deadbeat. I still read, I just rarely reply. You are rewarding those that chat more and penalizing the loyal.

I do NOT agree with the OP. You are trying to make some money by renting out your points. So is the forum owner. These web sites are not free. The servers and bandwidths cost money. They need to generate some revenues too.

So I support their request for paid subscription. In fact, I have paid for it. I am a proud supporter of the forum directions.

I think it is cheap to spend thousands on DVC but then complain a few dozen bucks to rent their unused points. :cool1:

thanks for all the fish...I meant posts:)

i'd like to think DIS'rs also visit the sites of the advertisers

There are other sites, other than this one, that have similar boards/forums you can use if you want.

Not trying to cause problems, but there are other options out there. I recently needed a point transfer and you can't make requests like that here (no big deal, their rules, ok ) so I leveraged other avenues.

You have other choices.

I have to disagree with you!:yay:

If the forum owner (who is that anyway???) wants to make money, then charge EVERYONE!

What I"m disagreeing with is the fact that the free ride goes to someone with 6 months of "membership"??? I'm sure my first 6 months I had 50 posts! I think members should get a few perks for giving some long time credibility to the site. I know I certainly really respect opinions of the longtime members.

I think potential renters would rather seek me out than someone like yourself, a new member with a paid sticker. By the way, I think you should have to pay!

Also, it doesn't have anything to do with being cheap… it has to do with principles and loyalty and respect. You might understand better when you've been here as long as I have.

PS… everyone that owns DVC is cheap! or they wouldn't own DVC! :flower3:

Yes, I agree. That's what is sad to me. I'm pretty loyal person, if you are fair with me, them I'm happy, and I'm staying. No telling how many people have I turned on to this site. Posts don't show that… but length of years might be a clue.

So, now you say my options are look around, no big deal…

And maybe that will be good for me. I just find it sad. Sorry. But thanks for the encouragement.

Most importantly, the "other site" has be one much more active than the R/T forum here anyway, especially since the advent of paid listings. There are days when there are 2-3 new listings here versus 2 pages on the other site. So you might be better off there anyway.

For the record, the mods here can make their own rules as its their site; I'm not passing judgement on the rules. I am suggesting to the OP that there are other (better?) options available if your frustrations lead you to seek alternatives.

For the record, this site does not belong to the mods and we do not make the rules. We are unpaid volunteers.

Speaking for myself, I support the Board policies. They make for a better environment.
