I have never walked in your shoes before but have sons about that age (not in the military). It must be hard to stand tall and be proud of what he is doing, but at the same time have many of those "parent" feelings too. I guess that best thing I can say is that we thank him for what he is doing!!!!!

I can't imagine how you feel, I pray he returns to you safely and the time goes quickly

I couldn't imagine sending my son. My husband leaves in about 2 weeks though for Iraq. If you need a shoulder just PM me.

lots & lots of hugs for you.

Our son just returned from Afghanistan 2 weeks ago after doing a 7 month tour. Probably the hardest 7 months of my life. But that being said...what got me through was doing care packages. If you reach out to boy scouts/girl scouts, friends/neighbors ...just spread the word about him being there and you will be amazed at the support. My friend has a son in boy scouts and they all wrote thank you cards to him, a friend collected candy at her job, i found a Parent support group in my area and we all put together packages for the troops.

Wear your red on every Friday to Support the Troops...hang your yellow ribbon and I pray for your time to go quickly and safely.

Again lots & lots of hugs for you

From a Marine Mom & Dad

I am so sorry, I know how hard it is. He is still your baby, even if he is a grown man.

Its hard to send them away. My DS was in Iraq several years ago and it was so hard.

I will add you to my prayers.

I have not been in your shoes, and can only barely imagine what you're going through but just wanted to offer my support and a prayer for his safety.

Our DS did not choose a military career, but our DGS will be out of high school in 3 years and is thinking about becoming a Marine like his Uncle. I'm already worried about him. :(

I hope the year passes quickly and your son will soon be home again.

I couldn't even begin to imagine what you are going through...sending prayers your way for his safe and speedy return.

And please tell him Thank You for what he is doing for me, my family and my country.

 DD's boyfriend goes back to Afghanistan for another two month tour next Tuesday. This is the second deployment since they've been together and she's just trying to hold herself together until he's gone.

I hope the time goes quickly for you both!

Many thanks to your son and family for your devoted service and many sacrifices for our great nation. :grouphug:

Know the pain of sending a son off to war :guilty: ~ as no matter their age they're still our little boys. We've made it through 2 deployments (Iraq & Afg) with DS and he's due to delpoy again this fall. My faith and staying involved has been my stronghold. We help DIL and our 4 grands any way we can, as they struggle with Daddy's absence.

Big {{hugs}} and prayers to you and the many others ~ Godspeed all our brave military that their guardian angels keep them safe and sound. ^i^

Our colleague's brother just got back this weekend from there. Oh, the celebrations and the joy when they return!!!!!!!

Thank you for doing this for our country.

I second the care packages. We all sent stuff and our other friend's church did a Christmas-in-a-Box party for "our" soldier. He sent back pictures and said that many servicepeople didn't have things sent over ever, so he shared.

GOD bless your whole family and all the families that have had to do this & the ones to come.

:hug:We will add your family to our prayers. Both of my Brother served over there, I know it is not the same.My Dad served back when I was a kid.It was different for my Mom sending her baby boys than my Dad.

If you ever need a hug, ear or prayer we are here.

I could never imagine sending my child to fight someone elses battles. I guess that is why I could never support that choice.

Good Luck. I'm sure it is hard. Hopefully he stays safe. His life , nor any of the others who have served is not worth it when it comes to what is going on today.

Prayers for your son Steve to stay safe. And prayers for you to stay strong.
