Sad about lost stuff that wasn’t found…

I lost stuff that was left behind within about two hours after leaving, too. Favorite old bra, a toiletry bag (empty), and a T-shirt. I would have thought that stuff like that housekeeping would turn in because who else would want it? I suspect they thought of it as trash. I wasn’t packing up my own stuff (long story), and it wasn’t high value stuff, but I was disappointed, so I get it.

Trashed. Not worth bothering with. Lost a MB that way last year. Useless to anyone else as it was registered and knew where it was left but it never showed again. Obviously housekeeping trashed it. Maybe Disney has a stupid complicated system for turning stuff in?

Is there a possibility that there was enough value to file a claim on your homeowners policy if you own a home?

Don’t most homeowners policies require a special rider (for an additional cost) for jewelry over a certain amount? At least mine did when I inquired if my diamond would be covered. It required the rider plus an official appraisal to be covered.

My own fault also of course, but the 2 items I left at BWV 2 separate trips should have been found and returned. I called BW Manager both times within 10 minutes max of leaving the hotel. I knew exactly which drawer both items (favorite top and expensive stick hair dryer) were in. I'm sorry but Housekeeping definitely went for SURE into the bathroom drawer as the hair dryers they provide are rewound with each stay. It would have been impossible for them not to find the top also in another very obvious drawer.

I'm sorry but I definitely am convinced it's housekeeping. Either that or Disney housekeeping is insanely inept with cleaning a room before next guest arrives and should be fired.

Sorry....this is a sore spot for me. Even though my fault for accidentally leaving. Both times, pickup car was arriving super earlier than planned and I stupidly hurried.

You may want to check if the credit card you used to pay for the trip has any type of travel insurance that may cover the loss.

You never know. It could turn up. Last March I left a pair of gym shoes and socks under a table at the pool at old key west. I had worked out, took off the shoes to put on flip flops and completely forgot about them. It was our last day and I did not realize I had left them until we got home. I filed a report with Disney and got back their stock answer that they had not been found. So I forgot about it and bought another pair of shoes. 3 months later I got an email saying they had been found and were being returned. In about a week I got a package with my shoes and socks. I don’t know where they were for 3 months but I appreciated the follow up.

Depends on your policy. Ours has an amount for jewellery and artwork and only if we were to be over that would we need to put a special rider on it. The amount, which was as low as they would go, is significantly more than the value of anything we have. However, our previous policy with a different firm had a meagre amount, and we had to put a special rider on for our wedding bands which have precious stones in them, so they were considered "special" and because they were worn all of the time were more likely to be lost or stolen apparently.

No one should be fired because you can't be an adult and keep track of your stuff. It's natural to be bummed....but poor form to accuse people of things when at the end of the day it's your fault.

I was a complete ditz this trip. I borrowed my DS Mickey hat (a nice dri-fit Nike hat) and promptly lost it on the bus our first day out. Filed. Report but doubt I’ll ever see it again. Ought a new hat to replace it. But I am so impressed by the CMs who work at FW and HDD. I had a magnetic wallet on the back of my phone that I kept my debit card and id in. I dropped my phone during the show and didn’t realize the wallet popped off. We were on a bus back to our resort when I got a call from a (407] area code. They said they were from FW and asked if I lost my id and cc. I was sooooo thankful that they found it before I even realized I lost it. Would’ve been huge headache to have gotten to the airport with no id to fly back. I picked it up the next day. Wish I noted the name of whoever called me to leave a cast compliment.

Not disney but my family and my friend's family stayed at a Hilton near Hershey Park. On the way home the boys went to some museum and my friend and I went and had a drink at a bar. She realized she left her engagement ring on the bathroom counter. We called immediately and they had it at the front desk. They said they left a message on my phone number on file (I booked both rooms). When we eventually made it home I did have a message from them on my home phone about the ring.

Yeah, they are. I lost stuff from drawers on our last trip (GFV). Realized it within an hour or two.

Housekeeping found the inexpensive stuff, but somehow couldn't locate the more expensive item that I left behind...in the same drawers. Interesting.

In all the years I've been to WDW, this was the first time I left items. And like I said, only the cheaper stuff was found. Lesson learned.

But her expectation of it being found and returned isn't out of bounds. Employees not following that protocol does shine a light on their honesty. There's a big difference between a stuffed animal and jewelry, yet both should be treated the same by people employed and trained to follow protocols.

Every guest experience, especially negative, deserves manager attention. It's poor form to justify theft for a mistake.

There is zero proof it's theft....and no where did I justify theft. Mousekeeping could have missed it in the drawer and the next person snagged it or tossed it. There's 100 things that could have happened to it.

I agree that people aren't wrong to have an expectation that a lost item will be return. But I don't think a lost item NOT being returned automatically means it's due to theft and the employee should be fired.

My son once left a new pair of glasses at a hotel once while on a hockey trip with his team. We went back to the hotel a few days later in hopes of finding the glasses. The housekeeping staff opened a drawer and it was overflowing with glasses that had been left behind. My son's glasses might have been one of them, but we couldn't readily identify them. I guess it's not too surprising your items weren't "found". My guess is they were added to a whole lot of other lost items and couldn't readily be identified as yours. Sorry for your loss. I know it's a bummer.

This - I worked at a music venue and after a performance we'd get 2-3 computer paper ream boxes full of lost items (3,200 seat theater).

Do you have pictures you could send to the hotel? I'd get phone calls from people just saying "I lost my glasses" and I'd look over to the box with 30+ pairs in them. More description could help!

I once found an unused (thank God lol) colostomy bag from a previous guest in a drawer in an OKW villa. I mentioned it to a housekeeper just as a small talk kind of thing and she said they don’t check the drawers, which I thought was strange.

They have to turn over those rooms so quickly that I bet they don't check the drawers. And even though you filed the report, I'm guessing it also took time to go from reporting to searching and by that point there was probably another guest. Maybe more than one guest.

I once found a bra in a drawer at a Disney resort. A quick check of the drawer by housekeeping would have noticed it, which is why I don't think they all actually check.
