Sacha Baron Cohen to play Freddie Mercury???

I'm happy Johnny is NOT playing Freddie. Although I don't like Sacha Baron Cohen, I think he'll do a GREAT job.

Queen is my all-time favorite!

I do think SBC can play the part. I do hope he does it seriously, and well. Freddie Mercury does need a respectful tribute, not a caricature, and not someone hyping all the idiosyncrasies.

He definitely looks like the short-haired, mustached Freddie, but I'd be curious to see how he looks as the long-haired Freddie from the early days. I wonder if SBC will lip-sync the songs as there is nobody who can sing as well as Freddie.

The bolded is what makes me more comfortable with SBC playing Freddie. I know Brian May and Roger Taylor wouldn't let anything ruin his memory.

Just because Sacha is a comedian, doesn't mean he can't do a serious role. One of my favorite Jim Carrey movies is The Truman show. Not exactly a gripping drama, but not his usual schtick.

as i previously stated, i do hope i'm wrong, and cohen does a brilliant job. such a film is LONG overdue.

as i previously stated, i do hope i'm wrong, and cohen does a brilliant job. such a film is LONG overdue.

You would HOPE May and Taylor will ensure Freddie is played respectfully by having the actor lipsynch - no matter how great the actor's voice is.

I also hope I am proven wrong, I was just not really happy with the choice at first as I am a big Queen fan and not a huge SBC fan.
