We are staying at the AKL in June and have reservations for both Saana and Boma on the same night. We have eaten at Boma before and really liked it. Looking at the Saana menu it does not jump out to me and say you should eat here. I have seen several good reviews for Saana. Am I missing something?

The food at Sanaa is very good. Reading the menu does not do justice to the wonderful flavors in the food. We like Boma too but Sanaa is much better.

My thoughts exactly.

Since you've tried Boma before, I would go with Sanaa for this trip and then you'll know which you prefer.

I ate at Saana in Dec and found the food to be very bland not at all what i was expecting from reading the reviews i thought the food would have alot more flavor. I would go with Boma.

I liked both as well. Lunch at Sanaa and dinner at Boma. I like some zing in my food and both are fine.
BTW, what did you do with the real Pat's team?

I am so tempted to try sanaa since we will be staying at kidani this summer, the food looks great, but I am not a fan of indian spices (gharamasala sp?)
are the indian spices predominant ?

sorry for being a thread robber :confused3

I love Sanaa. It was the best meal I had on my trip last year. We have eated at Boma a couple times, and this year we decided to skip Boma and eat at Sanaa again. I loved the sustainable fish, it was yummy. Also, try the bread assortment with the different dips, my kids even like this!

I wanted to try Sanaa but we have a picky 12yr old girl. So we opted for Boma as there will be something for her to eat if she doesn't like the more unusual selections. Sanaa's menu looked great for me and DW but not so sure picky kids would find anything they like.

We have a reservation for Boma in a couple of months. Looked at both menus and Sanaa looked like Indian with an island twist. I had food at a restaurant that was from Sri Lanka and it's seems very similar. I'm sure there is a better description... We like Indian food, but have it quite often since we live in a town with a bunch of very good Indian restaurants, so we decided to try Boma. As fun as it is to try a new restaurant, if you aren't crazy about Indian or eat it alot already....

We are wondering how easy it is to see the animals from Boma or public areas in the resort? We'll be arriving in the late afternoon and we thought our 5 & 8 daughters would enjoy this side trip instead of trying to get to a park for a couple of hours.

Sanaa is nothing like Sri Lankan food. It's more of an Indian fusion type cusine with a bit of an African and American twist. We eat Indian ALL the time (DH and I have lived in both India and Sri Lanka) and DH asked to return to Sanaa.

It is very easy to see the animals. There are several vantage points. We've seen them from inside the restaurant and also just going out on some of the viewing areas.

Can't see any animals from Boma itself. But you can walk outside along the walkways to several areas that overlook savanahs where there are quite a few animals to see. We show up well in advance of our Boma ADR and spend time watching the animals.

At night there are CM's outside with night vision binoculars you can use to view the animals. We found this difficult as the animals tend to move to the far side in the trees at night and not often visible after dark.

We too were trying to decide between Booma and Saana, but went with Boma just to have a little veriety. I will try Saana on our upcoming adult trip.

I have been to Sanaa 2x for lunch only, and also ordered room service while at Kidani this past trip (which is basically the Sanaa menu). Each time I've gotten the Kefta burger (lamb) and its so amazing. However, for dinner, I would prefer Boma. I love the ability to try different things at the buffet, whereas with Sanaa your picking one dish, and if you don't like it, you are stuck with it.

Boma is by far our favorite restaurant at Disney! Our last trip we ate there twice and also went to Sanaa (for the first time). Don't get me wrong, the food at Sanaa is, in my opinion, quite good. Our kids also loved that fact that one of the birds from the savannah wandered over to the window right behind our table and "played" with them for a while.

However... the variety of foods at Boma is so much better than the other Disney buffets we have tried. My wife and I always thoroughly enjoy our meals and our six year old DS (who is quite picky) has no trouble finding something he likes (3 yr old DD eats everything so she loves Boma too). I always find myself unable to eat everything I want, especially when it comes to dessert.

So, to summarize, I don't think you can go wrong with either but in my opinion Boma is better.

PS Go Sox!

I have dined at Boma 10+ times and Saana only once, so take that into account....I was very underwhelmed with Saana except for the flatbreads. I had chicken tandoori and my friend had short ribs. Both were bland and nothing special. What tainted the experience for me was the TERRIBLE service we had--and it was lunch and the place was slow. We NEVER saw our server after he took our order. Drinks refills were next to impossible and management was indifferent. It will be awhile before I try it again.

BTW, what did you do with the real Pat's team?

Unfortunately the Pat's did not come out to play on Sunday. There is always next year.

Thanks to everyone for all the great advice!

Both restaurants are at the top of my list. Boma has such an awesome assortment of things to try and Saana has some unique foods (picky eaters may shy away but they'd be missing out) along with an excellent view of some of the animals. With either one you can not go wrong - may be worth it to give Saana a try and then you will know for sure your preference next time around.
