S.S. member Cruises

Another quick question (forgive me - never cruised stupid quesion coming) - I see that the rates are "per person based on double occupancy". Is that the rate regardless of the traveler's age? For a family of four in the std. inside staterooms it would be 4 x Rate?
The first half of the chart (rates by cabin category) are for the first two passengers. Look at the bottom part of the chart for "Additional Passenger" rates by age.

Yep, would have helped if I would have looked at the entire thing. Thanks!

I don't think it much different than our cruise this coming April. It's $500 more for concierge but the member cruise is an extra day. Can we do two cruises in one year? (we'll have to see!!) One being our first cruise ever!

I don't know what your price was for your April cruise but there is IMHO a big premium/surcharge for the DVC cruise vs. a 'normal' cruise. I checked the price for three different stateroom categories for the 4 day cruise just before and just after the members cruise for two adults. The price for DVC cruise does include tips but even then there's still a big difference.

Cat 9B - 9/11 and 9/25 sailing $1,217, Members cruise $1,970, $753 additional
Cat 5B - 9/11 and 9/25 sailing $1,657, Members cruise $2,514, $857 additional
Cat 4B - 9/11 and 9/25 sailing $1,817, Members cruise $2,874, $1,057 additional

We'll probably just close our eyes and pay the premium and do the members cruise, just hope all the special events make it worth the money else it might be our last.

After sleeping on this, I think we'll pass. The points are just way too high when you consider you can take the cruise the week before for almost half the point cost. Sure there are not 2 stops at castaway and no DVC gifts. But I read some trip reports from the 2009 member cruise and it seemed they were unimpressed. We'll see what the 2010 cruise reports have to say.

Does anyone know what the cancellation policy is for this cruise?

Does anyone know what the cancellation policy is for this cruise?

The cancellation policy for the 2009 Member Cruise was:
Category 3 Staterooms:
45+ days before sailing date: 57 Reservation Points or $400.00 of the cash payment made
44-8 days before sailing date: 50% of Reservation Points or 50% of the cash payment made
7-0 days before sailing date: No refund

Categories 4-11:
75+ days before sailing date: All Reservations Points returned to the appropriate UY or 100% of the cash payment made is returned
74-45 days before sailing date: 29 Reservation Points or $200.00 of the cash payment made
44-8 days before sailing date: 50% of Reservation Points or 50% of the cash payment made
7-0 days before sailing date: No refund

Any modification to a confirmed booking, including name changes or change in the number of passengers, is considered a cancellation and must be rebooked subject to the cancellation guidelines.

May or may not be the same. I believe that this is the standard cancel policy for a cruise of less than 7 nights when booked thru MS.

No interest. Would want to stop somewhere other than Castaway Cay.

Agreeded, somewhere besides where regular four day cruise goes would be nice. The 2005 cruise stopped at Key West, at least glad they're not doing Nassau, been there done that.

It fits our trip schedule perfectly, and my uncle wants to try DCL anyway. So we really want to do this, hopefully we find a solution with the booking day where I'm not available to call.

As we are 3 parties, payment might be a bit of a hassle, maybe check would be easiest. They say check have to be overnighted. As we arrive in WDW on the evening of Oct. 2, I wonder if I could just drop the check at the DCL office in Celebration.

When we went, we used points. Tips were included any way you paid.

The member cruise is a charter so payment is made to DVC.

We cruised last year right after the member cruise and they still had tons of member "goods" from the cruise and were giving them out to us members like candy, we had gifts in our staterooms and at certain times they would announce when to come by the dvc desk to get a prize. It was fun.

Just a thought that if the points/price is too high for the member cruise book the cruise after and hopefully they will have "goods" left over to give away like they did last year!!

I thought that last year they were still booking several weeks after the "frenzy" so if you don't get through keep trying.

Not really tempted. I like Castaway Cay but two days? Hmm.. I also like to see new stuff. Plus I talked to a friend who went last year and she felt like it was four days of DVC shilling too get you to buy new points... (As she put it, it was like being trapped in a timeshare sales pitch for 4 days. She said before ANY event they "sold" LOL!)
