Our cruise is in the beginning of Sept and I was wondering how far in advance I need to order my rewards card. Also, do I have to transfer the points now or can I get the card and transfer the points right before we leave. I've done this before but the Disney Visa website seems to have changed its ways a little.
Thanks

I believe it took a couple of weeks to receive my card.

If I remember correctly, you need to transfer some points to the card in order to have it sent. You could transfer a minimum amount and then transfer additional points as you need them.

Order it NOW. It will arrive in plenty of time but there is no point in delaying. You can order the card online or call if you wish.

You will have to transfer at least 10 points to the card when ordering. I would go ahead and transfer it all unless it's more than you plan to spend onboard. This is very unlikely as you can use it to pay tips, excursions, etc.

You can transfer additional points online at any time. Your new card will have an expiration date of 12/06 so you have to use up any points you put on it by then. This will not be a problem.

I suggest early in the cruise you just go down to guest services and have them transfer the entire amount to your account, again assuming you plan to use it all. If you're at all uncertain you can delay. Just don't forget to do it!

And oh yes, don't forget to take the card with you!

I applied for the actual VISA about two weeks ago. Any idea on how long it takes to process?

I applied for the Disney VISA about two weeks ago, and the card arrived a few days ago. HeelMD, I'd start looking for it in the mail this week.

You get points by charging purchases to the card. 1% ("or more," they say) of the amount purchased is what you receive in reward dollars.

Don't forget that once you receive the rewards card that you need to activate it via a phone call before you can use it.

You can transfer points to the card once you have received it. But remember, any unused points on the card disapear when the card reaches it's expiration date (usually in December of the year following the issuance of the card. ie. if you get a rewards card now it's good through December 2006). Points left on you account are good for 5 years.

I have the Disney Visa, but I am not quite up to speed on the points. Do the points transfer for $1 towards anything Disney? So if I have 400 points would I get $400 toward excursions on the cruise, for example?

You got it. Once you transfer points to your stateroom account, they're as good as money.

There are lots of ways to spend points on things Disney, but all we ever do is apply them toward our account on cruises and at Disney resorts. Since you can charge just about everything to your room in both places, that's all we really need to do.
