S/p/d question, quick service

I've been reading and lurking on these boards for years, but finally registered to ask a question. We are going to January. Staying 8 nights at a moderate resort. We do not want the regular dining plan, rather quick service dining plan. I sat on hold almost two hours today and was told you can purchase up dining plans but not down grade with s/p/d. Is that true? I know many times you get different answers based on the cm who you speak with. Thanks!

I am pretty sure you can use table service credits at counter service restaurants if you really wanted to but you wouldn't save anything by doing that. Why not just stay at a value to get quick service?

My dh hates the theming of the value resorts. The rooms are small and he likes a queen sized bed. I don't want to pay for TS and then use the credit as counter service. Besides, everything I've read on here and elsewhere says there is no guarantee that a TS credit can be used as a QS credit.

In this situation, you may be better off booking a vacation with the room-rate discount and adding the quick service plan at the regular rack rate. Or, check out the Orbitz room only prices and see how you'd make out. You could just do meals out of pocket if you're doing all quick service. It's not much of a bargain unless you get a discount on it anyway. After all, a package discount that you don't want/won't use isn't much of a discount.

Right now we have room only discount and are purchasing tickets. We plan to pay out of pocket for food. I was just trying to see if s/p/d with QS would be a cheaper deal. The cm on the phone today thought we could downgrade to QS but then said, never mind you can't. I thought I would ask here.

I like the idea of adding a QS meal plan just because then I know exactly how much our trip will cost. However if it isn't discounted it isn't a very good deal.
