S/P/D January - MLK blackout?

My Dad wants to go to Disney for his birthday, which is the Wednesday of MLK week. Travelwise, it would make the most sense for us to go Sunday-Sunday (19th-26th). Does anyone remember if MLK weekend was blacked out for the S/P/D discount last year? Was it Friday-Monday that was blacked out? Would we have to wait until Tuesday to check in?

Came here to ask this! We are booked for Jan 20-25. Since it's a short trip, we are considering flying this time, rather than making a 14 hour drive each way.

I'd REALLY like to get a discount this time (for the first time ever!) since I'm paying for my parents to go as well. Whether it's a room discount, free dining, S/P/D, don't really care, just something. And I know AOA LM is typically left out so we would change to Pop or something, doesn't really matter...

This is the week that will work for us but I can adjust the dates a little if I need to, like make it 21-26.

Anyway, I really don't want to buy plane tickets and then find out I'm missing a special offer by a day or two...

Really wish Disney would announce offers sooner than they do!

We will be at AOA the 18-22 and thinking of a deluxe for the 22-25. If there is no discount for the 22-25, we won't be staying deluxe.

January 17th-24th will be blacked out. S/P/D will be bookable again for check in on Saturday January 25th

I just checked the pin that some people got this summer for the s/p/d and it looks like the black-out is 17th-19th on that particular pin. That sounds a little more reasonable. I have a hard time believing that the entire week following MLK day will be blacked out, judging by January crowd calendars. But, I'm just speculating here.

We checked into Pop last year on Friday for MLK weekend on S/P/D discount so it was definatley not blacked out.

Thank you all for the replies. We didn't go last year, but we went in January 2012 with free dining. We did a room only reservation for Sunday night of MLK weekend, and then re-checked in under free dining on Monday. I was hoping we could do something similar for S/P/D. If that whole week is blacked out... I think Dad might be out of luck! There's no way we can pay rack rate and full price for food. Hopefully we'll get lucky. I'm getting anxious because airfare is as cheap as I've seen it in a year... but I don't dare book yet!

I'm getting fairs on Southwest for our dates for $97. but I don't know whether to book or not... what if my dates are off by a day or two for the discount???? what to do?

I was doubting my answer so I went back in my TA file to check.
2013 the bookable P/S/D dates were the following
Jan 2nd-9th
Jan 13th-17th
Jan 21st- Feb 13th

It was 2011 & 2012 that the MLK week was blacked out for Free Dining.
The dates for 2012 were
Jan 8th-12th 2012
Jan 21st-Feb 2nd 2012

I am 110% positive of the black out dates for Free dining for 2012 as that was the week we go every January. We usually go for my b-day which is the 19th but we had to wait til the Saturday after to check-in to get free dining.

I booked us on the 1st bookable day after the MLK blackout period and it was the 21st.

Ask your TA to note on your booking that you have a B2B (Back to back) reservation and request to stay in the same room. just make sure the R.O category qualifies for the P/S/D package.

From what I've been advised...yes..


P/S/D & RO discounts..with the exception of the blackout days) Will be

January 5, 2014 – March 2, 2014
March 16, 2014 – April 12, 2014

The R.O will be the following
35% off at select Deluxe Villas, 30% off at Moderate, and 25% off at Value.

Thank you! Yes, I'm assuming we'll have to switch from AOA LM to another resort to get any discounts, but I'm going to keep my RO reservation til I know for sure.
