S/O from car purchasing thread... New or Used?

Well, you guys were right- we bought the new car and I love it! I drove it home from the dealership (about 100 miles) and just liked it more and more. I kept remembering the slight vibration in the used car we drove and how I hesitated over it... but once I took this one out for a test drive, I knew buying new was the right decision! Now for a name... based on the color, we are thinking "Ginny" (Weasley) or Bonny (short for Bonfire), although Pepper and Ember are also in the running! Here she is...

Congrats on the new car. A few years ago when we were buying a new van, we ran into the same thing you did - the new one was only $5000 more than the used one, so we went ahead and bought new too. That was my very first every brand new car.

My mother still drives her 2014 Soul and just won't part with it. I am aminate about her trading it in for a new one due to the safety features, etc., but she won't budge. The utility of that vehicle is amazing. It rides well, it corners well, its visibility is outstanding, and the mileage is very good. Power is sub-par, but the Soul isn't designed to be a barnburner.

Hers is now going through oil consumption issues (~105K), but I put 1/2 bottle of the high-mileage oil leak/seal conditioner in and it's holding really well. No real issues with the vehicle since day one.

Great choice although I still like the Alien Green they had many years ago. Congrads!

Believe me, if I hadn't slid into a wall and had the airbags engage, I'd still be driving my 2015 Soul (85K miles). We took great care of it and it had no rust (something to consider after 10 years of Maine winters). When I bought it I, too, wanted the alien green, but the silver one was what they had available at the sale price, so the silver one came home with me! Although the power in that car was a little sub-par, getting onto the highway, you learn to drive it and how to "goose" it along to the best of its abilities!

PLUS on the new car: It takes the same size tires as the former Soul I ownde, so my 2 year old snow tires will fit!

r.e. bold -- I had a STOP sign slide out in front of me one winter when driving my 1968 GT350 SHELBY. Thankfully the curb helped stop the car. :duck:

ENJOY and watch out for moving walls.

I am a new car snob. Up until recently I had never bought a used car.

My son was in an accident a few months back that like you totaled a car that had lots of life left in it. We started shopping and found a dealer loaner with 4000 miles on it and got caught up in the heat of the moment and bought it.

While I know I got a great deal, and the car is practically new, part of me wishes I had paid the extra $5000 and bought new.
::yes:: Me too - I've never driven a used car. We've actually been lease people for the past 30 years so I've never even driven anything out of warranty. Due to seasons of life DH is buying out his current lease on a 3-year-old Toyota Camry Hybrid and it will probably be the last car he owns. When my current lease on a Mazda CX30 is up in July I'm purchasing a Toyota Corolla Hybrid, which I then plan to drive for 10 years (gulp) and see how that goes. A used car is just never in the equation for us, although I agree that a dealer-loaner or demo unit would be tempting if the price was right. :scratchin
